The gardaí can stamp certified copies of birth certs/documents, right?

Not their job and they will most likely refuse you.

Try a solicitor, oaths commissioner or notary public.

I've gone to the local Garda station a couple of times to get them to stamp a copy of my birth cert as a true copy. There has never been any problem doing this.

    There's no harm in asking.

Gardai on the direction of the attorney general have been given a direction not to certify copies of documents such as b/certs or college degree's as already point its not our function and also leave ourselves open if the documents turn out to be fake.

However we can witness a declaration made by the the applicant stating that the documents are a true copy of the originals, this normally does the job but really this service is best done by a commissioner of oaths.
