Showgirls?

    So over in the TV forum we got to talking about Saved By The Bell and the Film Showgirls came up. (Elizabeth Berkley stars in both).

    I think it is soft porn but perhaps I am way off.

    So in the interest of debate I was wondering do you think that Showgirls is nothing more than soft porn and without it it would be an even worse film?

    I was only talking about that sex scene that very similar to an attack in jaws the other day, it was right up there with the sex scene in team america for making me laugh although team america was supposed too. I cant remember the film at all, wasn't kyle mcglochian(spelling?) of desperate housewives in it too?

    Showgirls is one of the best comedies in living memory

    Unintentional comedy maybe but it is still great

    The scenes with Jennifer Connelly are much darker than the scenes in Showgirls. And it is a much heavier serious film.

    Requiem for a Dream is classified under Good Film. I can't believe I am comparing RFAD to Showgirls. Should not be allowed.

    I haven't seen Showgirls for a number of years.

    it gets kudos for fulfilling the childwood fantasies of seeing Jessie Spano up to all sorts of un Saved by the Bell style sheaningans. I'm a huge Verhoeven fan but it's hard to defend this one.

    Eh, can't believe that's even been mentioned in the same thread as Showgirls :confused:

    What happened in RFAD is integral to the character's circumstances at the time and indeed those of her boyfriend.

    It is not gratuitous in the slightest.

    They've shown it on US television heavily edited to take out all the naked ladies and porn [so as you can imagine a pretty short film lol] and yes it was an even worse film as all the unintentional comedy moments were gone.
