SKY HD box problem

    Hi

I have my SKY HD box for the last 3 years but in the last few weeks I've started to have problems with it. Basically on some channels particularly the movie channels I am getting a lot of break up of the picture and the "No signal" message appearing.

All other channels appear fine and when I check the signal quality and strength they appear OK. In the past the box has shown situations where the signal lock on the second cable was not there but a reboot would fix this. Now the rebooting does not solve this issue.

I have reformatted the box (at least I think I have all recordings disappeared) but this has not solved the problem.

Has anybody seen this problem before and knows how to fix it?

    Thanks

    LarMan

Is it a Thompson box? If yes, it could be the start of the now infamous PSU issue.

On the no signal/signal lock issue you could try powering the box down, and swapping the cables over at the back, and then power up, and see if this works. If not, you could then power down, and do the same at the LNB at the dish assuming you can get to it. I did this when I experienced that issue recently and it appeared to solve the issue.

In the end I was still getting many of the PSU related symptoms and got in contact with a really helpful guy in the UK who sent me a new PSU which I installed myself, and all is now well again.

Note: I am not an expert in this area, just going off what I have read around. I am sure others who are experts will be along shortly. :)

Thanks eddie for the reply it does sound like it is the PSU issue. I don't think I could attempt to fix it myself, does anyone in Dublin or better still Bray offer a similar service to the guy you mentioned?

Unfortunately I don't think anyone does it locally. Most either buy the parts from the UK and fix/fit themselves, or send off to the UK to have fixed.

The website I provided gives quite good instructions on how to replace it, note you don't need to do the soldering, as you can purchase an already repaired PSU, so its just remove, and replace. It's a little bit tricky where large fingers are concerned but if you have taken anything electronic apart and put it together you would have no bother. A little time and patience is all thats needed.
