dishwasher causing RCD to trip

    Hi folks,
I have a 10 year old integrated Ariston dishwasher, when it is switched on it immediately causes the RCD / RSD (BD62) to trip.
This happens when everything is switched off and even when it is plugged into a different plug circuit.

When the unit is switched on it lights up, but when the door is closed the RCD immediately trips.

There is a small bit of water in the bottom of the unit, but it shouldn't affect it. There must be a fault with equipment used in the first part of the cycle.
    any ideas???

It sounds like the door lock is tripping the electrics

Tks G-MAN for the quick reply.
Is that a common problem, never thaught of it, but makes sense.
    Any idea how to rectify?
    Thanks

I agree if the element is gone that it much cheaper to replace. However the fact that it trips when the door closes and no programme is selected majes me think its the lock.if it was the element the dishwasher would normally run until it reaches the heating stage then trip.Anyway you are going to be charged a call out of between 80 and 100 no matter what is wrong. price of a lock is around 25 euro and an element about 60
