    Hi Folks,

Will be adding a poll to this in a second.

It's a bit complicated to explain why I'm asking but I'd appreciate getting a few replies.

Not a lot of people know that.

    Pointless poll is pointless.

I found out what it means the hard way.

My grandad asked me to fix him a brew one day and I made him some hot Calmomile with honey.

He took one sip and then hit me an almighty clatter and said: "That's a qwerty you gave me there ya wee bugger"

nope, not familiar with the word at all...

But there is a phrase in regards to an arrangement of letters that doesn't flow alphebetatically I've seen floating about...

Crikey, that's a lot of replies very quickly.

Thanks for voting, i really appreciate it.

And yes, I do realise it seems like a pointless poll, but its very useful to me.

Why is the reason you ask, complicated?

    Just curious.

    Voted yea.

Somewhat related (I think). The longest English-language word you can type using only the top row of characters on a standard English keyboard is...
    typewriter
    .

And onwards I go to share my dubious wisdom.

Me and qwerty are as close as asdfgh, with zxcvbn coming close.

I've got buyers remorse now. I did the poll but the OP still hasn't explained what is the point of it all, 'it's complicated' ain't cutting the mustard no more.

    C'mon OP out with it!

People know you mean business when you use qwertyuiop.

Well the French must know that, and there are 64 million of them.

Yeah.. it's just downright rude for him not to tell us why he wanted to know

    I demand satisfaction!

Yeh, we'll have to have a word with him, and it won't begin with Q.

Surely most people who have had any slightly formal education or introduction to either typing or computing should be familiar with this, ehm, word (is it a real word or a phrase or what?).
And surely there would be a higher proportion of people who use the Interweb who are familiar with it, non?

If I didn't, I'd deserve to be smacked around the head with a qwerty something or other!

Tis that keyboard layout thing a ma jig.

You might have a dodgey population sample though becuase everyone who takes part in this poll knows how to use a computer and is therefore more likely to know what qwerty is. :)

. . . . this is embarrassing looking at the results but . . .what does it mean???

    Pointless poll is pointless.
Really depends on what the poll info is used for.

Technically I have a qwertz. However, even more technically, I have a qwerty that only thinks it's a qwertz.

QWERTY is not a word you idiots. Yes, everyone knows that QWERTY is the first 6 letters on a keyboard, but how many of those who voted "yes" have ever actually heard/seen it used as a proper word?

OP just proved how retarded most people are in the face of suggestion.

Is it not included in many dictionaries now making it a word?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,419 ✭✭✭WanderingSoul

It's in my dictionary which is "a book that lists the words of a language in alphabetical order and gives their meaning, or that gives the equivalent words in a different language.".
