    Thanks

Stay with them. I sought insurance form Irish companies and got crazy quotes.

The AMA insurance scheme has been over hauled too!

I'm with the AMA too, but am looking at insurance again.

Sorry to derail the thread, but whats the difference between public liability & personal accident cover?
Also AMA only covers while I'm teaching, do they have some kind of option to cover my students when they fight in competitions?

I'm not a legal professional but afaik public liability covers things like if a student trips over a mat, slips, falls, any of that stuff. Personal accident cover is for injuries as a result of training. You need public liability cover.

They have a number of options, you can simply add the people who have coaching to your policy. It's all on their website.
I find them very helpful if you ring them up, at the end of the day they're martial artists so they know the crack :)

How does one go about signing a club up to AMA?

They have an add in the Irish Fighter with the details or you can just phone them up on: 07973507716. You can pay via credit card etc.

    Thanks lads,

Just got an email back from AMA, their prices look very good. Could someone explain how it works exactly. There seems to be option for student and coach coverage. Am I right in thinking coach cover, covers the students during training and student cover covers the students when not training with the coach? Basically, do I need to both get coach and student cover for every member.

Student to student cover covers a student who maybe sued for kicking another in the face and knock a tooth out or any other injuries incurred.

So what does coach insurance cover? Like say I'm training with another student and I break an arm, will coach insurance cover that or do I need student to student cover on both of us.

So I notice when comparing the irish and english offers that the English one is personal accident cover and lists hospitalisation, dental and physio work as covered. However the Irish one is public liability coverage and lists nothing. Now that could be just a difference in legal definition between the two countries. I've sent the following to them
We have public Liability insurance for the premises from our associated university, what I'm particularly interest in is Personal Accident Cover, as in insurance for accident which are as a result of training.
    1. questions
What is the distinction between you Public Liability cover (PLC) and Personal Accident Cover (PAC)
    2. Would exactly is covered by the insurance (Dental, physio, hospitalisation, ect )
    3. If we have instructor cover, do we also need student m ember to member cover, or is there an option me can get which will provide PAC to all students training in the club.
    4. We train in multiple disciplines with multiple coaches will each coach need to be covered separately?

I'll let you guys know what the reply is.

I'd say it lists nothing beecause it covers very little. In my experience the Irish companies are useless when you actually try to claim.

To be fair the Irish company I contacted did send a list of things covered and amounts that will be paid.

Good question, I see on my cert from the AMA it says 3rd party is covered. Not sure what that means though. When I was going through the AMA website they did have some form for registering students, but I'm not sure if you have to have your club join the association for that to happen. They provided me with insurance without me joining (just cut out the form from Irish fighter and sent the money). I have asked about their insurance for students as well and am waiting for a reply.
Does anyone know what happens if you join an association like this? Do you keep control of your belt gradings etc ? Is it just a payment for membership and thats it, nothing else or are you expected to change your martial art?

From my research into it's just like any martial arts association except alot more liberal. If you want to use their grading system and regulations, grand, they'll support you. If you don't fine, you can still get insurance with them.

I'm still waiting on a response to those questions.

In fairness it's an english company.

Sent another email on thursday, no reply. These guys are starting to look more and more like chancers. Has anyone here acutally successfully made a claim through them?

Thankfully in 5 years the club is with them we haven't had to claim anything.

I know of a club that did have to use them and it went ok. It wasn't for a whole pile though.

Try ringing them, I get them all the time, first time on the phone.

What email are you using by the way?

    office [ At ] amauk.co.uk

I've got one reply, but nothing with regards to the questions I asked above.

Same email I have, give them a buzz.

i may be cynical, but I think common in practice in the insurance industry is to make everything a long endurance test. you have to chase them down
