Classic presidential cars on show at museum in France

It's a real pity we dont have a national museum where ex-presidential cars (and other ex-state vehicles) could be displayed for the public to view.

There is also 'ZJ 5000' aka 'Dev's Rolls'...which is used on special state occassions (and could be displayed in a museum for the rest of the time)...

(I'm sure there are probably a few other ex-state/presidential cars about which could also be put on display. I recall when Mary Robinson was president and had an Alfa 164 presidential car....circa 1990? ...that would be a nice museum piece if it's still around?!).

Back in the early 1990's Mary Robinson's state car was a beautiful black Alfa 164 with a gorgeous tan leather interior, complete with flagpoles on the front. I saw a photo recently (I don't own it and therefore can't scan it frown.gif ) and the reg was 90-D-41426. mywheels.ie tells me that it was a 3.0 litre petrol, the tax expired in April 2006, it had 4 owners and is now scrapped. It seems a pity that this would happen to a former presidential motor.

There use to be some fine American cars belonging to the ambassadors at the car park of the US Embassy in ballsbridge.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Talk about ambassadors, the first owner of my '94 E34 530i V8 was the Finnish ambassador to Ireland.

I know of a location to build a car museum, I've spoken to the land owners and they would have no problem donating the land, all that needs to be done is to build the structure. It's already attached to an old stately home and other tourist attraction, I can't think of a more suitable location to be honest, all is needed is a bit of support and enthusiasm to get things moving and it wouldn't cost the earth either.

I don't care what fault it had; whoever scrapped that car should be absolutely lynched!
