I worked and lived with my dad and recently we have had a major falling out. Now, I have lost my job and have been thrown out. I'm staying at my friend's place currently. The problem is I need a place to stay but I don't think I can get rent allowance because I'm in college and I'm not entitled to Jobseekers allowance. What do I do? Am I screwed?

Talk to your local community welfare officer. You might be entitled to something, even if it is short-term.

Your college may also have a fund to deal with things like this. Talk to Students Union / Chaplain / Course Director.

Thank you. I'll try and contact them.

Does anyone else know anyone who has been in a similar situation? How did they get on?

"Grovel!" is a harsh suggestion but I think Lisnagry has a point.
You hear about people who are homeless and sleeping on the streets "because I fell out with my parents". Such a stupid reason to end up homeless over!

OP, assuming abuse/assault isn't the issue, why don't you just swallow your pride and sort things out with your dad? Even if you have to bite your tongue and lie in order to set things right with him, isn't that easier than going to the community welfare officer, who most likely will only be able to sort out out with an emergency loan of a couple of hundred euro (which you will have to repay, don't forget!)?

I'm afraid it is unrepairable. For personal reasons I don't want to say on the internet. But it is bad. This is all a nightmare tbh.

You should go to the nearest HSE office asap. The following document outlines HSE responsibilities in relation to the homeless under 21 but even if you are older, go anyway.
