Wasn't there an old Nigerian airways 707 out in Dublin airport for years (like since the mid-80's )? I heard that they couldn't afford the release & refueling fees and so that was grounded and then abandoned. I think that one was used for fire training also.

There's an Aer Arran plane at Sligo, ran off the end of the runway into the sea, stripped and used for fire drills etc. There's also a grummen Goose at Weston, landed hard there and is unflyable as far as I know.

Over the years both Shannon and Dublin have had aircraft in an "abandoned" state on the airfield

This has arised over numerous reasons
EG Impounded/Non payment of maintanance/damage/tech reasons

Off the top of my head in dublin over the years these have been there

N7777G Connie was there for years and went to muesuem in London
N4565L HDF DC 3(ANYONE KNOW WHERE THIS IS NOW AS I FLEW TO BALDONNEL ON IT ONE YEAR)
    Casa built JU 52
    Bahamas world 707 VP-BDF
    nigerian airways 707
    EI-BAA britania
    EI-BGO CL 44
    EI-BDm Aztec

An d as for shannon there has been that much scrapped there I wouldnt know were to start
Boeing 720/707/727/737/DH-4/ the list goes on

I could be here all day

I have some pics of all the above aircraft but they are all on prints so I cant post them

I knew there had to be a logical reason as to the overshoot. That was the one with Aslan on board.

    Accident: Fokker F27-500, G-ECAT, Sligo Airport, 2 Nov 2002: Report No 2005-015
    spacer.gif
    25 August 2005
    SYNOPSIS
The aircraft was operating a scheduled passenger flight from Dublin to Sligo. The flight departed Dublin Airport (EIDW) at 16.05 hrs and carried out a Non-Directional Beacon/Distance Measuring Equipment (NDB/DME) approach to Runway (RWY) 11 at Sligo Airport. The aircraft, according to the pilots and eyewitnesses, carried out a lower and faster approach than normal, due to gusty wind conditions, and touched down further along the runway than normal i.e. almost halfway down the runway. The aircraft skidded along the runway and off at its end, coming to a halt with the nose section of the aircraft in the sea, with the main wheels resting on the edge of the embankment leading to the sea. The passengers and crew evacuated through the rear portside passenger door, down fire service ladders, and were bussed to the terminal building. There was no aircraft fire or reported injuries. The accident occurred at evening twilight.

N4565L is at Doncaster in England.

The CASA 352 N9012N is now in a museum in Ugglarp, Sweden.

A bit of searching around on airliners.net and worldairpics.com will turn up photos of several of these aircraft at Dublin.

Poor Bird she is slightly cleaner on her left too and is used for practice by the Rescue Team at EINN, EC-CFA (cn 20811/1003) ,Boeing 727-256/Adv she was one of the oldest in the Iberia 727 fleet. That picture looks like it was taken from the Business Area to the right as you drive into EINN, i wish i took a pic of her when i was bloody beside her at the Westair Ramp area, instead i had to make do with SP F-16's and A-10's:pac:

It is indeed and G-BKHE of Britannia prior to its Ryanair days

    Steyr
YN-CNN was broken up in SHN and if my memory serves me right it was 2004

Was this the same Constellation that had been the aircraft used by the Rolling Stones for their Australian tour ? If so , it had the ' big lips ' logo. Delighted to hear it went to a museum , as I recall a group of enthusiasts were trying to save it but they were complaining that Aer Rianta was obstructing them.

On the news a few weeks ago I also noticed a Flyglobespan plane in Shannon in the background. Wonder what that's doing there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,202 ✭✭✭EchoIndia

It is stored, having arrived from New Delhi on Christmas Day last after FlyGlobespan ceased operations. The aircraft is G-CEOD B767-319 (c/n 30586).

well from what i was told when i was in aerospace the guy showing us around the place said that it was bought by a few business men with the intentions of starting there own airline but when it was inspected by the engineers they found a crack on the fuselage which was beyond repair so the aircraft was grounded and so it was wrote off by the insurance company
