In the last week or so the Discovery channel has reverted to 4:3 display for all programmes. But Discovery+1 is still widescreen! Has anyone else experienced this? Is it UPC or is it possiblr my TV is not recognising the correct aspect?

Just checked and its looking fine for me. Try different settings on your UPC box and your telly.

It's the same on sky digital sometimes. It's a 16:9 Widescreen picture alright but they don't turn on the widescreen flag so you end up with a 16:9 picture squashed into a 4:3 frame.

It's basically a bit sequence in the MPEG stream which indicates to your box whether the picture is 4:3 or 16:9, so that it can present it to your TV in the correct aspect ratio.

Yeah I noticed this recently too, I have to manually set the TV to 16:9. Same problem with 3e and the other way round with TV3 (stuck on 16:9).
