    Ok here is my idea...

Buy second hand (98-99) car for around a grand off someone. Maybe older/cheaper

Using this car as trade in, get my 2 grand off a brand new one

Does anything stop such being done?

Yes, the car must be registered to you for 18 months prior to scrappage.

Anyway you will get a good if not better deal not having anything to trade or scrap.

The only little problem is that you have to own the car for about a year (might even be a year and a half ) before you qualify, car must be taxed during that time too.

The new car must be registered in the name of a person who has owned the car to be scrapped for more than 18 months.

First off, why spend a grand instead of, say, €500.

Secondly, how will you make any money off this: you'll still be stuck with a new car and it's not as if you'll be able to flip it for a profit when anyone can do the same thing as you?

    Greetings

How are you doing today? My names are Kamara Vincent; I am a political refugee here in England.

I am looking for a reliable person that can handle my late father's deposited funds. My late father (His Royal Highness Chief Kande Kamara ) deposited a total of $18,700,000.00 in private Security company with my name as next of kin before his untimely death. I have confirmed the deposit with the Security. This is why I am contacting you now to stand as my foreign beneficiary to receive this money and guide me on where to invest this money in your country.

I am ready to give you 15% of the total fund for your services. The Security company director confirm to me that the delivery charges and Government tax for the deposited $18,700,000. Have been paid for by my late father. All we need is to get some kind of High Court notarize change of ownership documents that would surely reflect your name as the new beneficiary of this fund.

This will make it easy for the Security firm to transfer the funds in your names to you. I have discussed with my late father's lawyer who has agreed to help us process the needed notarize document from the High Court of Justice when I have someone who will help me receive the fund on my behalf. The lawyer said for us to get the High Court notarized change of ownership documents we will need some amount of money to process ,this is due to the volume of the fund involve and that is the only expense we have to make in order to get the funds transferred to you.

I trust this lawyer as he is a good lawyer and he was my late father's lawyer, he told me to get a reliable beneficiary that would not cheat me or sit on my money, then we can secure the needed documents.

Please if you are ready to receive my funds on my behalf in your country kindly forward your full name - address and your ID, to enable the lawyer secure the relevant High Court notarize documents so that the delivery charges would be deducted by the Security Company before releasing the funds to you.

I will wait to have your consent urgently before we can further discussion.

    Regards,

    Vincent Kamara

As said above, you must be the registered owner of hte car for a period of 18 months.

And as also said above, you can prob get yourself a better cash price than scrappage price!

This was all made clear when the scrappage deal was announced, obviously they thought if your "foolproof" idea before you did.

Its a learning curve. Lose the attitude folks - its just an idea. There are real loopholes out there in the rulebook if you look hard enough.

Fair enough, swing and a miss this time, but its not cost me a cent.

Ah lad c'mon, we're only taking the piddle. Its not attitude, its just that when you suggest something without the first bit of research and its obvious to the dogs in the street that it cant be done then you're gonna get a bit of a ribbing :p

I opened this thread expecting to see some ingeniously complicated scheme to get around the rules. But no, nothing.

If a friend or relative had an old banger and you wanted a new car could you get your relative/friend to trade in banger and buy the new car for you with your money and then transfer ownership?

Then you have a brand new, two owner car, that'll make it easy to sell on, you'd make a killing .
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
