Has anybody has experience of the two?

How does the bit rate compare on the two?

To my untrained eye (I don't know the numbers involved), I can't see a difference between the two picture or sound wise. There might be some service differences, like subtitles and available audio channels though.

All HD channels on UPC carry a Dolby Digital track.

The bit rate is good but Blu Ray is better.
Also many Blu Ray discs have True Dolby or even DTS HD.

I saw the 2 more or less side by side in a demo in the RDS
Sky's HD looked more HD than UPC's HD
may have to do with telly setup
but sky's image was sharper and with more detail
