2010 racing threads

Given that domestic road racing is due to start up shortly, I thought I'd put forward a modest proposal for racing threads. There seems to be a good number of people planning on lining out this year, so I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have one big thread each for every club league folks are in. We had regular reports from the Orwell/Lucan/IRC/UCD/Tiernans league and the Swords club league last year. Hopefully we might have people reporting from a few other leagues this year? Does this sound more organised or would these mega threads be unwieldy? Open races should probably get their own threads. What do people think?

Good idea, the reports last year were excellent and certainly gave me the impetus to join a club and start this year, so hopefully that can continue. This whole racing lark can seem quite intimidating to the casual cyclist, hearing first hand accounts helps.

We are expecting you to surpass Raam's achievements this year then Dirk:)

Oh no, I've already mapped out how my season will go: it's going to be a mash-up of "rough ride" and "Adrian Mole", real grim reading, no glory, just crushing defeat after crushing defeat.

If you are a betting man, I'm the equivalent of the horse running at 80-1, on three legs, with no eyes and pointing the wrong way out of the starting gate with a 200Kg jockey on my back.

Of course, this could all be sandbagging, but I think the posts to come will prove my early prediction correct ;)

Good idea. If have of us here can rabbit on about training and sportifs then it would be good to here from people who actually race.

YES to race reports (I might even have some of my own), but NO to monster threads. Maybe a thread per league and per open race would work for some, but I like the way some folk kept a racing diary here last year in a thread of their own devising... the training sub-forum is a good example of how good things can come of mingling the idea of a (b)log and a thread.

This morning the orwellians did a recky lap of the circuit for the first league race next week and given the road conditions (lunar) and the state of some of those corners (like freshly greased teflon ball-bearings) there are bound to be incidents to read/write about.

Let's have a "Post images of crashes" thread also:)

I agree with Tom, the mega-threads can get a bit difficult to follow to be honest. 1 thread per race is fine IMHO, that is largely what happened last year. Reading about club league race 21 I'm not particularly interested in wading through 96 pages about the rest of the league.

On the topic of race 1, I stuck up the route here. Some very slippy stuff, I have volunteered to marshal rather than race on Sunday.

OK, sounds good to me. I'll start a thread about next week's race so. Thanks to blorg, we now have the route in map form.

Why were the corners so slippy this morning? Frost? Or just general wetness? After last year the paranoia is setting in a little.

If I see you fall in front of me, can I shout "Tim-buuuurrrrrr!" :D

I'm incoming PRO of St.Finbarr's CC in Cork for this year. We run the only summer racing league in Cork city. I will start a thread on the league once our dates are confirmed.

Anyone know if there is any pre-season races on in the South East over the next few weeks?

I have done club league races before, so I'm hoping this will be the next step up (and that I can make that step up too!).
