Clipped a peugot side mirror last friday on way home from work. Mirror part came off and cracked but the main thing seemed fine.
Even folded in when he clicked the central locking. Told him I would pay for it outside insurance and gave my details. He called today
to say the knuckle is damaged and could come loose at high speed. The part plus installation will cost 414 euros. Happened two mins
from home too. Will have to look at the insurance policy to see if it worth my while claiming for it. Does this seem like a fair price?
Apparently labour is 50 euro, the rest is for the mirror! Cheers

I reckon a fair chunk of the cost is for painting and he didn't mention it to you?

Sounds about right costwise from a main dealer.

Spurious would be a way to go. All the benefits or a replacement part without the OEM mark on it.

Just thank yourself lucky it wasn't a Renault you hit. Man, they have expensive parts.

If its a higher spec 307,407,607 it will be a electric folding in mirror...which
    work out expensive.

A garage will get the part from the main dealer and put a write up charge on the part of about 20- 30% on top of the cost of the wing mirror. Then you have the labour and installation and painting it.

I would try a scrap yard but since it is someone elses car you can't really argue with them if they want a main dealer part and have it properly installed and painted...

if you can get a quote for a oem part properly painted and fitted then they should be ok with that

Sounds like he's stickin it to ya (he's taking advantage) cos you said you'd sort it out cash wise.
Tell him your passing it on to your insurance company and let them worry about it.
Check with your insurer, most policies allow 2 claims in 3 years without it affecting your policy and even if they don't, there's no way your policy is going to go up by 400 quid!

OP would obviously need to take any excess on the policy into account. No point in making a claim if you have to pay for most of it out of your pocket anyway.

If he's any way decent, he'll let you source one from a breaker for less than half of that!

If claim is for a third party(other person) you don't pay the excess. Insurance co cover full amount.
