    Roundup

But if you're in REPS you can't do it.

Grazeon 90 kills weeds but not grass or rushes

Best time to spray is when there is growth, no point doing it now... all dead matter and herbicide wont be taken in by plant unless it is green and growing.. may up to august usually, we use grazon 90 or else scrub killer, and if very grassy like in silage ground because little grazing near the ditch throw in a bit of total herbicide (roundup or gallup)

we use grazon 90 too but it would be june or july before we start

we spot spray with ally for docks,v.hard on grass though, mix in some d50 to do rags at the same time. after the initialy sweep of the farm its grand, leave sprayer on quad and do a few as u are herding etc
we are new to reps last year can u not spray along ditchs with wires or just not use rounp-up along them:o

as mentioned above a mix of grazon90 and roundup will kill both grass and briars, they will tank mix quite well and use at directed rates

Gallup360 is similar to roundup and is much less expensive,

Best time is when there is active growth and full foliage i.e may to august

might be cheaper to instead , get in a hedge cutter to breast the hedge behind the fence , one thing ive noticed is that farmers and especially proffesional fencers tend to put the fence far too close to the hedge , thier was an article in the journal a while back highlighting the fact that cows can reach at least three feet in under a fence and still graze , therefore a fence should be three feet minimum from the hedge , often times though its litterally hugging the hedge , hence a reduced shock

I cut hedges last year all that happened was that ferns and briar's grew back twice as thick. The only way to stop the fence earthing is to spray the ditches, if you are not in REPS.

what's the best grassland spray for docks thistles and ragworth and what time of year gets best results

you normally spray ragworth inmid to late march when they are starting to grow be very aware to leave stock off land for 3 weeks after spraying as ragworth are deadly dangerous and palatable when dying , also if there is frost you wont get a good kill and might have to respray

I agree with you. it is very hard around here to get a contractor to cit a hedge at ground level where there has been a fence in the past. Its is likely that there may be a strand of wire left in the undergrowth and if that gets caught in a flail head it can take hours to get it off. Even a length of bailing twine, a piece of silage wrap or a net wrap is the greatest disaster and can hold up cutting for hours.

However, If you are in REPS and are caught spraying under your fence, you can lose up to 15% of your payment.

not wishing to go off topic but is true that from now on all reps penalties will be carried across the board, i.e SFP headage etc.as well ?

I know that pollution and slurry spreading out of season already carried this, but heard lately that all reps. penalties will apply to all payments.

    Hello,

Yep, thats what I was told. I did the REPS4 course there a while ago, and they said that any penalties would be on the total amount (REPS + SFP + ... ) not just on the REPS portion.

A herbicide called Arsenal (Imizaphyr) will sort your hedges out. It is used in forestry for clearing scrub etc. It is non selective and will kill everything in its way. It also has a long residual soil activity so nothing will grow back on the sprayed area for 6 months.
