How does one create impulse responses on Mac?

I want to make impulse responses of some samplers that I have. But I have no way to convert the sweep into an impulse response. I don't have Logic Pro.

    Any help appreciated! :)

Hmmm. Can you elaborate a little.

It's samples you want to copy? Not samplers yeah? The sound of the sample like...

When you say sweep do you mean a frequency sweep?

Would a standalone application be good enough or does it need to be a VST or something?

Is it something you could do with a vocoder maybe?

Thanks, I'll elaborate. I'm using Kontakt for playback. It can use impulse responses as inserts. I have a few samplers, for example, a Casio SK-5. Max sample time is 1.4 seconds. So I make a full range sine wave sweep of that length, and sample it into the Casio. I play it back from the Casio and record it. It's this resulting file that I want to deconvolve into an impulse response, to see if I can make Kontakt sound like a Casio SK-5. If that works, I know a Fairlight CMI IIx owner who will record sweeps for me. I also have a Yamaha TX16W I like the sound of.

So a standalone app would be perfect.

    Oooooh! funky.

Will Freeverb do that I wonder?

So you want to end up with a .sdir file yeah?

I'm meant to be doing some homework at the moment. I'd be interested to see how this pans out. I've found a PD patch already but it doesn't make an IR file. I'm looking for a similar project and maybe try and figure out code for it.

    How's your mathlab? ;o)

Some folk have done this, but not with the samplers I want, and not in the detail I want- such as CMI IIx at 15kHz and 32kHz.

I don't have Matlab for Mac. Anyway, that makes me go "eek"! As does PD, C Sound and Max/ MSP. I just don't have the time to learn programming and I was never that good at it anyway.

Freeverb description doesn't mention deconvolution, but I'll check it out. Yes, I want to get a .sdir file.

I tried "Impulse Response Utility" that comes with Logic, but it doesn't allow much control over the duration of the sweep. There is "Voxengo Deconvolver" but that's PC only. Tritone digital are due to come out with something similar, an update of "Color Tone".

I've been looking in to this some more. Realising why no one has done it yet! :) I should probably look in to circuit modelling instead!!!!!!!!

On the PC, it looks like Voxengo and Nebula can do this sort of thing easily enough.

But if anyone has any ideas, feel free to share.:)
