    Hey all,

I´ll give a quick summory of what happened and would really appriciate if anyone could help me on the matter. I went to my local social welfare office yesterday because I had to give back the form that they send out in relation to seeking work. While I was there I decided I would change my bank details. Because I was with Halifax until I found they were closing.

The guy at the hatch seemed to be having a horrible day (city centre socialwelfare) I asked him could I please change my bank details because my bank was closing. He said, no you will be collecting it from the post office now. I was like well im sorry but why I have been collecting it for the past 2 years from the bank (I was in education during 1 of those years). I was a little shocked and then he said to me, have you thought of moving to England or Australia or perhaps Canada, I said sorry. He said at the moment there is a high chance of getting a job there.

Is it his place to suggest I leave the country? Is it his place to stop the bank payment?

I asked the guy at the desk and he said "well its up to the person on the hatch" .

Can anyone please help me with this I´m not sure if he could just do that.

    Thanks

    Dameeda

Seems to me it is his place considering he is involved in the process of paying you social welfare and just happens to give you some information on how you can return to employment.

Go back, ask to see a supervisor and raise both issues. I don't know under what circumstances he felt your payment should now change to the post office but do know that money is going in large amounts from families in Ireland to support their family members in Canada and Australia who have gone there and failed to find work and are holding on in the hopes that their luck will change. So, no, even if he is a senior person in the SW and is a Job Facilator, he has no right to suggest you move abroad and certainly no right to give you false information about job prospects there.

There are much better employment opportunities in Canada and Australia, if you have the necessary skill set. I dont know see how thats giving false information
