Transmission problem on 3.2 Pajero

    Pajero 3.2 DiD LWB

    On the dashboard:

the diagram for the 4 wheel drive has green illumination for all wheels and an orange illumination in the centre.

Driving normally the rear wheels on the diagram are illuminated green but after about 15 miles they go out and the centre orange light comes on and flashes every second.

Stopping the jeep and restarting it gets rid of it and the green illumination comes back on for the two rear wheels but after another 15 miles the orange light is back on again.

The manual says to stop and restart and it should disappear (and it does) but if it reappears (and it does) to get to a service agent.

Before I go there .... can anyone tell me what's wrong?, is it serious? and is it easily sorted?

    Thanks! :)

could be just a sensor on the transfer/gear box. You can google for the PAjero owners club, and you should find further info.

Theres connections on top of the gearbox.Chances are these are probably loose or a bad connection .Get some terminal oil and spray it on them. You''ll to drop the crossmember under the box down.Make sure your well clear of under it.It drops down pretty far.
    Hope this helps

there are 3 switches on the top of the gearbox and they all give hassle. ya may get diagnostics done on the gearbox. you will probably have to go back to the main dealer as diagnostics on a pajero gearbox isnt something every diagnostic scan tool has the function to do

    Thanks for the answers guys.

Took it to a Mitsubushu main dealer today. He did some whizzy things with the sensor, thought it might work, didn't, flashing light came on again at about 17kms, rang garage, new part ordered .... will keep thread informed as things happen.

    :)

hi all, good forum, i have got 05 np parjero 3.2 did manual and when i put it in low 4wd lock it goes in for about 3 or 4 mins and then the orange light comes up on the dash, the trans lock light flashs on and off until i switch the 4x4 off and then it resets. I have read other forums but they aren't very clear, I am very mechanically minded. Does anyone know how to fix my problem, I believe it is some type of senson or solonoid?
