I was just wondering if anyone knows how much you should expect to get paid for a month long internship? Or are they unpaid?

    Thanks in advance

If I remember correctly it was something like 378euro per week PPC1 and in the region of 450euro per week PPC2

of course these figures relate to 2006 rates. so minus recessionary issues.

the bigger issue is still getting a PPC placement

    you're confusing internship with apprenticeship

Big 5 firms? Around 600/700 or so a week - whatever they pay their trainees they pay their interns. Smaller firms I've no idea, i imagine many of them are indeed no pay.

I don't think it's around that high, €40,000 a year works out just under €600/week and €33,000 is around €525/week with the new taxes and levies.

Anyway, I think the figure for 'Top 5' interns is around €400-450/week and other firms less or maybe nothing at all, depending on their size

Much, much less than that from my experience.

    250 for one
    200 for another
one firm had offered 500 I believe this year.

^ that's 3 of the big 5 firms - I don't know about the other two (could be the 600 that others are talking about)

less than a trainee is paid but not bad pay. One month in the big five firm I interned in was approx 1400 euro.

I'm 27 and looking for a training contract and could really do with some in-house experience.
But would the bigger firms generally be looking for people either in or right out of college for there internship programs?

Good question, I would think and from what I've heard anecdotally the internships tend to be a little more aimed at the final year students/ recent graduates. One can see this bias even by how some of them indicate they want your CV when applying eg. listing your subjects and results by year in your CV. If you were to do that when apllying for a traineeship your Cv would be a complete mess.

But being 27 wouldn't be a big issue when it comes to applying for traineeships for big firms. Especially if you had expierence in an industry that they value eg if you worked in banking for a few years, in tax or accountancy even would be a plus. At the Intervies this year I certainly met several people in the 27 age bracket. The majority would have benn 21-24 but then again someone your age would bring alot more expierence to the table than any of them.

Your right, sorry. I was working off gross figures not net.

I believe Arthur Cox still offer two week unpaid internships and, in my experience, I agree completely with D.R cowboy:

Really, you are just there for the experience and a potential leg-up on the competition. Any pay you get is really just a nice bonus on top of that -- and generally completely undeserved for the basic work you would be doing. (There is *no way* an intern contributes €500 in value a week back to the company.)

Hehe, then I guess the top US firms are crazy to offer 2800 dollars a week for their internship programmes? (I jest, I know of course the US and Ireland are completely different beasts when it comes to the legal arena).

Imagine getting a 3 month internship with those firms though...around 36k in pay - equal to many people's salaries.
