Sky+ Multi-room

Hi, just a quick question. I recently got Sky+ installed in two rooms and the engineer told me I would need a phone line for it to work. Well, I'm thinking of removing my Smart broadband/phone package and I'm worried that this will disrupt my service. So, this is probably a stupid question, but does it need a 'working' phone line, meaning I'm paying line rental, or does it just need to be connected to it (meaning Sky can still use it independently of Smart). Like I said, it's probably a silly question, but I haven't a clue.... Thanks.

you need a working phone line so the boxes can 'phone home' .
this is to verify the boxes are at the same location.

you might get away with it but sky can charge you full price for the second box,

We had the phone lines there when we got the boxs installed, few months later we moved one of the boxs and never bothered moving the phone line.. no problem...

Sky will write to you eventually if your boxes aren't "phoning home"
After that, they will charge you a full sub price for the 2nd card if you don't hook in a phone line that works.

They don't want you loaning the 2nd box and card to someone else for cut price sky.
Thats how they police that and police it they do.

Too right they do. We have a customer who had a multiroom installed last year. She got rid of her landline and now her direct debits have gone up - being charged her full package sub on both cards. Not happy to say the least.
