Out of work due to an operation - Advice Needed

A friend of mine is out of work for up to 6 months due to him undergoing an operation.

It is all cleared with his employer and he registered for sick pay while he is out.

I am just wondering is there any other paments he is entitled to? Is his employer under any obligation to pay him? I has been working full time with the company for the previous 10 years.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    Oliver

If he is still being paid by his employer then I dont think he will get and sw payment. However if not, he should be entitled to Illness benefit.

His employer is under no obligation to pay him while he is out sick. Some employers operate a scheme where they pay you in full & you forward on the illness benefit cheques from the dept of social welfare. I recently returned to work following a 4month absence due to recovery from surgery and my employer paid me in full, I just handed up the cheques when I came back. By the way illness benifit is around €230 a week depending on your circumstances.

    hope this helps
