Aching quads before a race

    Sorry for the noob question, just looking for some of your experience please:

    I'm running the Enniscorthy 10k on Sunday. On Wednesday night at training we had an uphill session and my quads are quite sore because of it. Probably didnt stretch as much as I could have.

    Sore yesterday and no better today.

    So what do I do? Ice? Stretches?

    Will I be ok to run? Because I'm really looking forward to it - it's my first 10k race. :)

    go out for a light jog later and tomorrow morning. very light recovery run and you ll get the blood flowing to them again and they ll ease out. its just lactic acid. you ll be fine to run. re stretches - google is your friend.

    I'll try to get out (- Husband is away at the moment and I've two small kids. Might be able to rope in someone to mind them for half an hour. :))

    I'll defo google the stretches anyway!

    It was a good session for me alright, maybe muscles are a bit stressed.

    I went for a gentle jog anyway, and they seem a bit better. They dont hurt when I run which is the main thing.

    Rest day tomorrow before the big day Sunday.

    you are right i ve always called it lactic acid (football background) but its really DOMS (same thing to me really but thats the more correct name). lactic acid does nt stay in your body for more than a couple of hours after exercise
