Out of curiosity.......Dublin hills, how steep ?

Probably isn't worth a thread on its own but hey....

I know the theory behind gradient and how to calculate it etc but I'd love to know what, say, a 5, 7 or 10% gradient actually looks/feels like. So I was just wondering if anyone knows the gradient of any roads out around south Dublin ?
Not too worried about the length of climb, just curious about the steepness, thinking of random examples like :
Stocking Lane (Ballyboden to Mount Venus),
Blackglen Road (Marlay Park to Lamb Doyles),
    N81 (Citywest to Brittas),
Three Rock Mountain up by Stackstown Golf Club,
Bohernabreena to Brittas (up past Dublin City Golf Club - formerly Ballinascorney)

As I say, its just curiosity on my part.....

    Thanks all

Head up this every week, up Kellystown road and into the forest all the way to the summit. I can tell you that from the very bottom to the Stackstown Golf Club varies around 10%-14% according to SportTracks, and after that settles down to ~8% up to the flat bit. The right turn up to the forest entrance is again 10%-14%, and from the forest entrance to the gate is about 8%. Then there's a right vicious ****er just after the second gate that seems liek it goes on forever, tops out at 16%, ends as the trees clear on the right and then settles back to about the 8% mark again all the way to the top.

I always feel weird saying "yesss back to 8% time to recover" after that steep bastard, doesn't seem like a sentence anyone should be saying :D

This is what 3 Rock looks like to my Garmin.

Occured to me just after I hit post that I'd have been better posting a similar screenshot than all those words :)

    10-14% by Stackstown???
I grew up beside there and we used to spend afternoons racing up and down it on our BMX's and Raleigh Grifters. Never ceases to amaze me how much energy kids have.

    To the OP.

Another climb is just off Blackglen Road by the shop.
Head up Slatecabin lane. After about 0.5k with some at 12% turn left onto Barnaculla. 1,2km up to lookout at Blue Light pub. Some flattish parts but mostly a wall over 10%.
Short sharp and bitter. Rewarded by great views over Dublin (and a nice pint in the Blue Light) before descending.
Mostly good road surface and well light at night.

Thanks for that. I always thought I was just knackered by the time I got there. Don't think it "looks" as steep as it is. Nice to know there's a reason, apart from my lack of muscle, stamina, practice, and technique.

If you go onto mapmyride.com and map a particular road that you know exactly what it looks/feels like they have an option for elevation. They will tell you the gradient of each road. Not entirely sure of how accurate it is.
