    Hi all,

Quick query, with so many very convincing replicas around what are the telltale signs of the fakes? In the replicas is the Model, version and modem firmware the same as the genuine?

    Cheers,
    Ronan

The fakes don't require you to be rapped by O2 with 18 month contracts, exclusive (read: excessive) contract rates and devious practices regarding data usage...

There's a good chance a fake won't have the multitouch interface on it.

Depends.Do you just mean by looking at the software or reading about features?
Most fakes run on a cheap Java OS and have a worse resolution so look very pixilated.
Then theres the usual stuff like dual-sim,tv tuner etc.

Ya the dual sim etc would be a dead giveaway alright. Im pretty sure most of the chinese ones are identical at this stage so it would be really handy to know if the stuff i mentioned (firmware, model and version) are the same on replicas as they are on genuines

Theyre still not even close. The entire software is completely different. If you want a really quick way instead of checking settings they dont have an app store,no youtube app, there status menu at the top is always different and they have Internet instead of Safari

Sorry, my bad. I meant to say they look identical.

Ok the internet instead of safari will be particularly easy to check. Did i hear that the replicas don't have wifi?

It will cost < €500. if the deal looks too good to be true, then it usually is. If it was using all the same parts as the real thing, it would probably cost as much. The fakes I've seen look absolutely terrible, a bit like Samsung Toccos . if you can't tell the difference, you've never used an iPhone.

That's because you need to be able to make a call before it can drop it ^_^
