    Hi everyone,

Seem like Im on a sugar binge lately, Ive seen gymnema mentioned on The Afternoon show a spray to put on your tongue which rids your cravings for sweet food. Has anyone tried it? Just want to know how you are getting on with it?

I have very little motivation at the moment to start my healthy eating. Im not over weight but would love to feel a bit trimmer and not rely on sweet food so much. Just feeling generally crappy at the moment!

If anyone has any tips would like to hear? Thanks.

I don't know if it kills the craving for sugar, but it sure as hell kills the ability to taste it. I have some, in the form of little sucky tablets, and if you suck one, you literally can't taste anything sweet for about three hours after. And believe me, a biscuit with no taste is disgusting. You can still have things like coffee or cheese, but sweets, biscuits, cake, cornflakes etc are out.

The stuff I have is called "No Snacking 2bslim" and is made by Arkapharma. I got it in France, in the airport, and haven't seen it in Ireland. You can get the liquid form, which I'm sure does the same thing.

chromium and fish oils would do a better job

Might be better for overall health, but I can testify that GS really does kill the ability to taste sugar. I've given it to other people, and they all say the same. My sister won't take it, because she says it ruins food for her.

Do you guys find Chromium works? I have tried it to kill sugar cravings but found it does not really work for me - maybe I did not take enough?

come on - kills sugar cravings.

I think anyone i delt with that said they had terrible sugar cravings i would be looking at a better solution than one that must be sprayed on the tongue i.e. too much carbs, sugars, artificial sweeteners etc

Why not think of it as a sugar patch or something like that? No-one condemns a smoker who uses a patch or chewing gum to get off fags. Why shouldn't you use something to break the sugar habit? If nothing else, it makes you realise how much of what you eat is too sweet. You wouldn't believe the difference in the taste of bread or pasta with it.

And what's the difference between using a mineral to curb sugar craving, and using a herb to kill them?

It's hard to get off sugarry food but when you do break the habit you don't think about it. I think it's a good idea. If anyone finds any in Dublin tell me!

fair enough i just would come at it from a different angle and find that once clients follow what i ask of them there are no sugar cravings.

Also, weight training and aerobic exercise can help with better control of blood sugar levels in a massive way

Could I please ask what these things that you ask of clients are?? I have done everything to prevent and curb sugar cravings and I still get them!!! Would be interested in another perspective!

I think taking chromium supplements is a load of crap. Chromium is in almost every food, and deficiency is extremely rare.

In my opinion, if you want to cut your sugar cravings, give up refined sugar cold turkey. Enjoy your fruits and small amounts of low GL bread as usual. After a few days of feeling bad you will feel great. The cravings will be gone.

I feel I will do it for awhile and give up sweet treats but its hard to do it long term as theres sugar in lots of other things like All bran, breads and alcohol, do you have to give up everything?
In relation to the post saying to do more exercise, I do loads of running and I still crave it! Wouldnt mind trying that spray for an incentive while going cold turkey.

my point is that you have to look at the diet as a whole NOT in parts. Take exercise into the equation and its a recipe for success. Post up your current diet.

Yes chromium is in lots of foods but those that have insulin issues i.e. coming off a ton of carbs and sugar can benefit but again not as much as taking a good high dose of fish oils every day i.e. 5-10g
