I hit this bastard of a pothole and it cracked my alloy and im told i need to get it welded i went to one place and they said it would cost 70 euros and it would take a week
Is this normal? is there anywhere i could get it done in a day or two?
Whats an average price for this?
    Thanks

    That's ITS in Midleton, right?

That's about the norm really. There's a guy called Leo Whelan in douglas that probably does it too. When I read your post, I was thinking €80 from experience. Suck it up, mate. It's not goimg to be cheaper without being worser! It's a pain having to wait a week though.

Leo Whelan has done a lot of work for me, when i was in the trade. his work is top notch. He has a mobile repair van too so if its not too bad, he can do it on scene. can't find his number anywhere though. He was about €55+VAT at the time (2 years ago) iirc

How bad is the crack and where on the wheel is it? You'd need to get the wheel rebalanced afterwards too I suppose. What car is it from?

I had one welded recently for the same reason (pothole). It was about an inch long from the inner rim (the one on the inside of the wheel). There was a little bit of damage to the rim itself which needed reshaping with vice grips.

Anyway, it cost €30 and took about an hour.

What's your point exactly? That the OP should get it done for free, and also be allowed to skip the backlog of work already waiting?

And he wasn't told it would take a week to weld it - he was told it would take a week to be done.

    +1

Were you able to ensure the wheel was straight when you were done? Would you have been able to straighten it if it wasn't?

Engineering costs. Most of us have been there and I was very happy to pay to be able to have a wheel repaired instead of having to bin it.

The welding of the alloy is the easy bit, any welder could do it, the hard bit is the rolling(not sure what the correct terminology is) of the wheel to ensure its still in shape also the people who repair alloys have insurance to cover any problems/accidents caused by the wheel later on which a welder would not. With the state of the roads at the moment I'm not surprised that theres a weeks backlog of work.

Jeez lads you give jip to a welder cos he says he wouldn't charge 70 or 80 euro for it.

If it were me I'd be PMing him and asking him to have a look at mine.

Thats exactly whats happened to mein im still driving on it at the moment is it very dangerous?
I dont mind the money part of it its just the waiting a week is a bit of a bitch
And they said that i give them the wheel and ill get the wheel back in a week not waiting a week to do it

i got it done recently by a place in little island, took 30mins.

cost me 40 euros, however they absolutely destroyed the face of the alloy from vice gripping it i assume, its covered in marks after it. and it was mint condition on the face when i handed it into them.

absolutely gutted with the state of it now, but they fixed the crack on the rim

Where abouts in little island did you get it done?
I suppsoe i wouldnt mind it that much there is one or two scratches on it allready
Was it very badly damaged after they gave it back?
