Hi i have a 97 ford fiesta at 77,000 miles. The demister is broke so i now i have to wipe the steam and condensation off with a towel . The nct is just now expired. its driving fine but it was only meant to be a temporary car and so i never bothered to get it serviced for the past year i have had it as i was out of work for a while and was not suer if i would need a car.
I bought the car for €450 last march and so now im wondering is it worth the hassle and expense of getting the nct. Seems like id be lucky to break even. Can anybody confirm if it would pass the nct with the demister not working or not?
i reckon it would be about €50 to get the demister switch from a scrap yard.
€50 for nct and if they fail it on anything else who knows what else it will cost. friends are advising me just to get it fixed and ncted but i think id be better off sellinfg it to a scrapyard and try to get something on it and get another car.so what do you all think?
    Thanks

I'd put it through as is and depending on what it fails for then decide whether it is worth it or not. The test only costs €50 and an hour of your time.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

What bazz said. If it passes the test, with a full 2 years NCT your car will easily sell for 300-400, even with the demister issue

Exactly what I was going to say!

Yea, but then you would miss that adrenaline buzz at a checkpoint ( for those only driving on the roads in the last six months, a check point is when some white cars with really bright stripes and some people in uniform block the road, before the recession you would see them) , and that warm fuzzy feeling an irish man gets at beating the system.

Scrap yard will not buy it from you, they will take it in for free.Sell it for parts privately
