E320 CDI Buying advice

Hi. Looking at getting an E320 CDI, 2005 or 2006 model. Just wondering whats the story on engine reliability, how reliable are the electrics and what else do I have to watch out for when buying (do any bushings wear out quicker than others etc etc.).

I don't need advice on another model, there's a particular reason I'm after one, a saloon, not an estate, could be an E280 CDI or a E400 CDI at a stretch too.

    Thanks.

We have an 06 E280cdi with fairly high mileage (140,000km ish) and an 07 E320cdi with low mileage (40,000km ish) on fleet.

The E320 hasn't done enough mileage to have any issues - think it's only just had the 2nd service.

The E280 was run by a customer who didn't take a maintenance contract so we don't have a full history, but when I picked it up from him last year he was telling me they only recently spent €7,000 on the engine as the turbo had failed. Think the turbo fins were sucked in to the engine - this would have been around 100,000km.

Not sure if that's a known issue with the cars, maybe a search on a Mercedes forum would turn up more info.

I believe the E Class is considered pretty 'dodge' until the 2006 facelft. My nieighbour's 2003 E200K seems to be constantly in the garage...

The driver company they use at work runs only E220/270/280/320 CDi's. I was in an 05 E270 (may have been a 320 but don't think it was) recently. 343k miles up on it and you honestly wouldn't know it. Not rattles or anything. Was talking to the driver and he said it's a strict one driver per car policy with them and the car is serviced monthly and has never let him down.

Serviced monthly, you could run a Ferrari as a co car :D

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Well the mileage relates to about 80k miles per year. So serviced monthly is not crazy, about every 7k miles.

I'm kinda presuming he meant an oil service:D

All the car seems to do is motorway mileage to and from Heathrow. Was in an 08 with 130k miles too. They have a few older 220's too but haven't had a chance to have a nose about them yet!

The Girlfriends Dad used have a 04 Merc E200 Saloon it spent more time in the Garage than on the driveway with electrical problems.

The first step I'd take is a bloody big one away from an E class (it'll break your heart with problems).

If you want something big and diesel, go for an A6 or something else from the VW group.
