    Hi
I want to upgrade the sound system in my car. This is where i'll probably loose most of you... I dont want a new head unit. I want to keep the car in its original state. Its an old fiesta but in great condition, an ultra modern head unit would look out of place.

The sound quality is pretty good as it is, I just want to improve it. Im not willing to spend more than 80 on it.

What should I look at? Small subwoofer? The speakers are grand, but maybe new ones would improve the quality enough.
If you had to buy one item for your car stereo system what shoud it be?

Id love any ideas/thoughts you guys might have

You're not going to make much of a difference for 80 Euro, if you want to keep your own head unit and improve the sound

The best way to do it would be to replace all the speakers for higher wattage units from a decent manufacturer with a decent response. The standard ones will have weak magnets and paper cones, and will distort, and fail to reproduce sounds clearly. You might be lucky and pick up some speakers cheaply on adverts.ie/donedeal/gumtree

If you want to go down the sub road, you'll need to do the above, but put highpass filters on the normal speakers to remove all the bass, then fit a sub, and an amp to drive the sub. That way the sub can reproduce all the low end work, and the standard speakers can generate just mids and highs. You could probably do the sub route for circa 400 euro with new speakers on a really tight budget.

How old? I'd say for a 100 you'd have speakers that would be far better than the original ford ones. The old 6x9 speakers hidden in a new MDF parcel shelf trick would be worth doing here?

is a 1996 one. Rediculously low mileage and in great nick (interior wise)
I dont fancy building an MDF shelf though, can I not just replace the ones in the door or are there more descrete speakers?

How many speakers? Just front or does it have 2 in the back doors?
Either way no point paying too much on speakers if you are keeping existing tape player / radio, but anything would be better than the paper cone yokes originally fitted....
I'd be no expert on the MDF shelf malarkey, maybe you could just re-inforce your own shelf with something...
