Lost Baggage - Airline - What Can I Do?

    Hi

    Hoping someone can help, am really stressed out about this and the airline aren't being too helpful.

    I came home yesterday from a holiday and my baggage didn't arrive it seems.

    I brought most of my wardrobe and toiletries etc and I have been told by the airline that a bag has to be missing 3 weeks before it is "Lost".

    I saw somewhere that the airline is responsible and will compensate me but I am not really in a position to wait 3 weeks.

    Would it be faster to claim on my insurance?

    Are the airline obliged to give money before the 21 days?

    I spoke to the airline and they don't seem to know where it might be and weren't too convincing or promising on it turning up saying that everywhere had been checked.

    It just had everything in it - Just real disappointed.

    Better off claiming on your insurance and let them deal with the airline. Though you may have to wait 3 weeks for the insurance to pay out, if the airline don't consider it lost then the insurance company definitely won't.

    Most bags do return quickly. I was unbelievably panicked when mine was lost 2 years ago, I started crying at the baggage desk. It arrived 2 days later though. Don't give up hope!

    Similar to above, flying from Dublin to Toronto via Heathrow and the luggage never arrived, it turned up 2 days later. I've heard similar stories from friends of mine.

    Chances are it will turn up.

    i have "lost" my luggage a number of times on long haul flights, they always turned up the next day, i wouldnt be stressing over it just yet.

    so now i always have a change of clothes etc. in my hand luggage just in case

    Have to agree with previous posters, up to 3 days and all my luggage has appeared that has gone missing in transit.

    As for compensation, they will be asking for receipts of what you had in the luggage and they will discount also based on the age of items in most cases so start digging them up.

    Fill in the lost baggage claim form with the airline. Make sure you get a copy, and a receipt from the airline confirming that your bag is lost.

    After that, claim from your insurance.

    Your bag may turn up, but there is nothing wrong with starting the insurance claim process. This can take months to sort anyway.

    Check your insurance. Sometimes you'll be covered to buy essentials while waiting for your bag to turn up - though not sure if that just covers you while you're away.

    It might turn up yet.
    I've only had bags go missing twice, but both times they arrived within 36 hours.

    The European Consumer Centre Dublin will explain these entitlements to you in detail and they will also provide you with the assistance and information necessary to pursue the matter. However it is important to contact them as soon as possible as under the Montreal Convention complaints relating to baggage must be submitted within certain timeframes.

    Don't be worrying. Likely turn up in a day or two and they will courier out to your house.

    Fingers crossed for you but am sure will be okay.

    I used to workin the baggage tracing secttion in Dublin.
    Where were you coming from ? and what airline did you fly with ?

    hope it wasnt SPAN AIR. they re are the pits, "lost" my golf bag on an internal 40 min flight , malaga- barcalona. never turned up . approx 8 months later after never returning letters, faxes, e mails ( just ignoring them ! ) or saying they missplaced the information, they coughed up about half of the value of the clubs. disgraceful from a major airline.
