Garmin Cadence Sensor - problems

So I purchased a cadence sensor to go with the Edge 705 unit I bought last year. Trouble is I cannot get the 705 to "see" the cadence sensor. I have gone through the troubleshooting suggestions on Garmin's website (re-scanning for sensor, replacing the battery etc.) to no avail. My feeling is that the sensor is probably working: i.e. it is responding (indicating by flashing lights on the sensor) to both the crank magnet and spoke magnet. However, by the same token, the Edge unit is seeing the heart rate monitor.

Has anyone else experienced this difficulty or should I send the 705 itself back to Garmin?

I know it's probably poor form to reply to oneself (especially when no-one else was in a position to) but just for the record: I went out yesterday and the cadence sensor started working spontaneously. Go figure.

Hiya .. I occassionally had the problem that when I started cycling the unit wudnt read cadence. I had to make the main unit recognise the sensor again (button on sensor). The last time it happened it looked like the cadence sensor had moved a little towards the wheel so I just straightened it back to a position nearer the left crank.

Hi. I have a sensor on two different bikes. The red abd green lights flicker as the wheel magnet/crankarm magnet pass.
Despite this and various troubleshooting etc my Garmin has never picked up the cadence sensor. I know have removed the sensors and given up on them.
Afaik you can return the product and garmin will resendyou a new one.
However it seems as if serendipity has sorted your problem.

@ROK ON - if you've one of those sensors still knocking around I'm in the market for one if you're looking to lose weight from the kit box and add some to the wallet?!

@rflynnr the cadence sensor with the 705 is pretty dodge, just even a quick 'google' will bring up tons of complaints with the bloody unit.

I've had mine for about 18 months now and I've had mixed success with it. Sometimes it works perfectly for months and then nothing .. for months, despite trying an ever growing repertoire of ' fixes '.

I've wasted more time fixing the feckin' thing that I'm now resigned to just getting a new one and hoping I'll have more luck with that, for € 48 I really hope so. Dont know if any other manufacturers ANT+ cadence sensor will work with the 705.

Thanks for the responses. I may be able to save someone a couple of quid here. I have a second sensor (which I was originally going to return to CRC as defective until I realised that the sensor wasn't the problem). It's still in the box/under warranty and never used: €40 to anyone who wants it. Otherwise, I'll return it to CRC.
