Do I need a completed MED2 for all dentist expenses that I want to claim back or will some receipts suffice as well?

    Thanks

I think the MED2 is mandatory for dental expenses.

You'd need to have a stamped MED 2 for each procedure

Yeah you specifically need the MED 2 as there are a lot of dental expenses that are not allowable which you may mistakenly claim for

I am aware of one exception because I found it for myself !

Routine dental expenses are not allowable for tax relief purposes. However, somewhere in all the blurb I discovered that dental x-rays were covered. I cannot remember if they were allowable specifically or on the double-negative basis that they were not excluded.

Anyhow, I always claim for x-rays (incurred in routine dental expenses) and always get it back against tax.

There is no space on the MED 2 form for dental x-rays which is why some people don't claim them.

Some lazy Revenue person disallowed my routine dental x-rays last year. I argued the point on the basis that they were not routine and that they were not excluded. I got a cheque for the balance due but no explanation.

Thanks for the advice. Turns out the extra receipts I found were for procedures that didn't qualify but will keep the xrays thing in mind.

    Thanks
