ok so i connect my ps3 to my monitor using a hdmi to dvi cable. Haven't played ps3 in about a month...
    ..

i tried earlier and i cannot get the ps3 to output to the monitor. Ive tried holding the power button until the beep but no joy. Ive no tv to use the component cable with so i cant switch to hdmi that way.

Also the cable works fine, i thought it was that first but i tried it with my 360 (that automatically detects which output is plugged in, thanks ms) and its grand...

    any ideas?

or if possible can someone describe how to go through the menus to change the settings so i can do it
    :D

    Thanks!!!!!

Try holding down the two Trigger buttons for a while, I think that resets the output. Someone else will be along soon to help more I'm sure. :)

Have you used this monitor before for the PS3?

What make/type of monitor is it.
We've had trouble connecting the PS3 onto some monitors using HDMI's something to do with the version of HDMI ports on the screens not being compatible.
There was a direct email to sony about this.
Because the xboxes where connecting straight away.

I think i held down the power button on the actual ps3 when mine reset it worked.

    What two trigger buttons?

This is all i could get from the google machine :
    * Make sure the system is off.
    * Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.
    * That's it, your video settings are reset and you should be able to choose your input and configure it from there.

Hold it down for longer dammit !

I know the feeling of having to reconnect the old cables to get it to work. Quite annoying I must say.

    Is the monitor HDCP enabled?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,992 ✭✭✭Korvanica

yea i've used the ps3 on the monitor a lot and it has always worked grand.. tried the power button, no help at all. ps3 definitely works as i can turn it off with the controller so theres no issue with it booting up properly....

iv'e no idea how to enable it or disable it or where i can find it :D i just use RGB cable now...ordered a DVI cable for it so hope HDCP doesnt stop that :) otherwise to that its a full HD LG 22" TV/Monitor :D all i know :)

What is the make and model number of the monitor you are using?

I don't think the ps3 will work using HDMI/DVI without HDCP - from a quick google.

    Dell S2309Wb 23"....

EDIT: while editing , Why does the save button say "vote now"??

    Says its HDCP compatible alright.

Strange one really, could it be the lead or adaptor your using has gone faulty is the next thing id be trying OP.

It is stupid that it doesn't detect it, but i've never had any trouble with the reset thing.

@amacachi trigger buttons i thought were for the xbox to reset the display

EDIT: Just a thought some projectors i've used have a HDCP setting for inputs under a second setting have you tried that?

    For example
    input 1 video : Composite
    input 1 video : Component
input 1 video : DVI (HDCP)

The cable is grand, its a straight hdmi to dvi cable with no adapters and i just tested it again in the xbox. no problems.

Any chance someone could go onto their playstation and write down the buttons you press from the top of the setttings menu to change it to hdmi.

It boots into menus fine, i can hear it. (i use component cable for sound). I have tried all combinations of component cable and hdmi cable and no success there either. ;(

EDIT: settings menu is second one in from the left yea?

I use my PS3 on my monitor and can do the hold down power button trick. I use the same cable you are describing.

    Ok
Press X to select a user if you have more than one, if you dont then you will go straight to Menu screen XMB.
Mine goes striaght to the last thing i was on, which was the Playstation Network. So keep LEFT pressed for a few seconds so you know where you are.
    Then press RIGHT for SETTINGS
DOWN 10 times for Display Settings, press X
You will be on Video Output Settings so press X

    In here you have :
    HDMI
    Component / D Terminal
    Composite / S Video
    AV Multi / SCART

Which one do you normally choose?
    Press X for HDMI
In here you have HDMI Settings, default if AUTOMATIC , X for Automatic or DOWN and X for Custom
For Automatic to Accept Settings, Press LEFT and then X

Gimme a shout if ya need more help with blind configuring

More here from the google machine :
    http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/videooutput.html
This shows you the XMB which is neat

No problem i would be slightly worried after the power-button-reset-display-thingy didnt work. Great grammer.
Can you connect it up with your mates tv and your monitor?
That would be the best way to test it.

Sounds like the exact issue I had with mine years ago - TV refused to recognise it at all when plugged in with HDMI, but other devices worked on the TV, the PS3 worked fine when using component and composite cables and the PS3 worked fine when plugged into other TVs.

Happened directly after I updated my firmware, so it kind of seemed like the DHCP handshake just wasn't happening with the telly any more, but sadly I got no help from Sony, and LG are an utterly useless bunch of baxtards (they took my TV for a month and didn't bother doing anything with it)

I'd be amazed if Sony offer any more help than telling you to press the power button in for 5 seconds/try different cables tbh:(

crap. id say thats whats happening alright.. :( ..... I'm testing it on another TV tonight so if it works on that then theres the problem :(

hmm, its an excuse to get a nice big new TV i guess....

Did the ps3 ever work with that monitor? If it did then what changed, if not, verify like you say with another TV to rule out the ps3 or cable being on the blink.

It always worked with that monitor.... Nothing changed at all..... Cable is perfect. I use it with my xbox too and it works fine.... Ill let you know later when i test it....

Reminds me of a Futurama quote :

    SCRUFFY
Scruffy knows who killed them people.
    In Scruffy's opinion, it were--

[Leela turns the lights off again and stabs Scruffy with the
same sword. The lights come back on.]

    ZOIDBERG
So, it's just as I suspected all along.
    The crime is unsolvable!
