Irish Broadband - getting out of a contract

The Ripwave in my area is crap so I need to get out of the 12 month contract my mum apparently lumbered us with while I was in Australia. All I want to do is change to UPC. Is the contract really binding? My mum never signed anything!

Prove it doesn't work and they should be understanding about it.
She mgiht be on a 1 month rolling contract.
