About 1000€ more than the hatch is fair enough i suppose..

Still can't get over the spec on the comfort, if only all those goodies weren't wrapped in such a lousy design.

The estate is a much better looking car than the hatch though, dont you think?

    I agree.

It's not too dissimilar from the BMW 5 series estate IMO

The boot on the hatch is massive though and with the double hinged lid very easy to access.

Unless you're planning on dealing in antique wardrobes you'll hardly ever need the estate over the hatch

The lights look horribly truncated unfortunately!

They do, i wonder why they didnt wrap them around onto the tailgate. Seems an obvious thing to do which is why i suspect VW didnt allow them to do so, other than that though, theyve got the design of the back quarter spot on IMO

It is better looking than the hatch, but only just. I just could never forgive it for being designed to look uninspired when we know it could be so much better.

Those rear lights are horrible... They (VW) probarbly stopped them doing something like this...

Unfortunately, as things are currently, Skoda will never be allowed to have a car that is blatantly better looking than the VW it is meant to be competing with, although i know many would prefer the way the current Superb looks compared to the current Passat

And there lies the number one problem with badge engineering. It would just really annoy me to drive a car that was made to look bland/unbalanced to enhance the image of another brand in the group. Imagine Da Vinci carving David and some bean counter comes along and says, "No way mate, to good looking, you have to put a hump on him."

Definitely, but I'm an estate deviant. Am I the only one to think the hatch is strangely proportioned - like the middle "box" came from something BMW 7 series size, but the other 2 boxes came from something smaller?

They're very like the lights on the old A4/A6 which I always thought looked very truncated too:

Interesting that there is no 140bhp PD or CR option. I had read that the 2.0l 140bhp CR from the yeti was entering production on superbs this month, thought the combi would be the 1st to get it.

Good news if its true, where did you hear it out of interest? Maybe this means the 1.9 TDi will be replaced in the Superb too soon!

Did a quick search and its true alright! Cant find anything about it in English, all in German, translate from here

Superb, the model provides for an additional common-rail turbo-diesel. Der Selbstzünder mit 2,0 Liter Hubraum leistet 103 kW/140 PS. The 2.0-liter diesel unit with 103 kW/140 hp engine. Der Motor ersetzt ein gleich starkes Aggregat, das Skoda bisher mit Pumpe-Düse-Einspritzung im Programm hatte. The engine replaces an equally strong unit, which had previously Skoda with pump-injector fuel injection in the program.

Der neue Motor erfüllt laut Hersteller die Euro-5-Norm, verbraucht im Mittel 5,4 Liter (CO2-Ausstoß: 143 g/km) und steht für die Limousine und den Kombi zur Verfügung. The new engine, according to the manufacturer meets the Euro 5 standard, consuming an average of 5.4 liters (CO2 emissions: 143 g / km) and is available for the sedan and wagon are available. Kombinieren lässt er sich mit einer Sechsgang-Schaltung oder der DSG-Automatik. It can combine with a six-speed manual gearbox or the DSG automatic. Die Preise beginnen weiterhin bei 26 150 Euro für die Limousine und 26 850 Euro für den Kombi. Prices continue to start at 26 150 euros for the sedan and 26 850 euros for the station wagon.

143g/km of Co2 is pretty decent but unlucky its not in the 156e tax bracket, maybe they'll do a greenline version of that and get it below 141g/km

There is a 140 CR available in the UK. Maybe it'll turn up here at some stage...

I read it over on briskoda.net

There is also speculation that the 1.9TDI 105PD will be replaced with either 1.6TDI 105CR or the 2.0l 110CR.

Whats the pricing of the 140CR in the uk like? On the normal superb here the 140PD is less only about €700 less than the 170CR. Seemed like a no brainer to go for the 170CR if the 140PD was in your budget. Will the new 140CR be cheaper than the old PD?

I dream of a day when we have no thread about a Skoda...

I also think all that talk of VW not allowing Skoda have a nice looking car is rubbish. Skoda have never been designers of fantastic cars, their last effort before the obvious VW influence is the Felicia, and that wasn't an oil painting. Sure Seat's Ibiza was always better looking than the Polo, and about 10 years ago the Toledo was far nicer than the horrible Bora.
I don't think there's any need to be making excuses for Skoda's below average styling. It's all their own doing. Facelifted Octavia case in point.

I'd imagine Michelangleo would have something to say about it too!

    yeah bu estate > hatch/saloon looks :D

I would take estate instead of hatch any time, even if i dont need estate car. reminds me of crysler c300 estate somehow...

Still think that rear end of the estate could be off a 20 year old design, it's is so bland as to be laughable.

But hey, who cares, thankfully the steering wheel is not mounted on the tailgate, in top sec it's pretty plush where to spend 100% of your time driving.

Jeez i hope if the 1.9 is replaced it gets the latter of the two above, a 1.6 CR TDi Superb would NOT feel quick, the 110bhp 2.0 would be adequate, much like the 1.9 but be a much quieter engine..

By the way, just heard today that the first Superb Combi's have arrived at dealers, well one dealers in Cork has one anyway, presumably nationwide!

I'm a Combiphile too, currently driving Octy Combi and will get the Superb Combi next but if they'd carried over the rear lights from the Superb "saloon" I'd have passed on it, I was behind a Superb this morning and I reckon a rear facelift is already on the way. if they make the rear lights in the bootlid the same height as the rest of the lights it would improve looks immensely.

Yeah, yeah good luck with that: I'd rather be cribbing about too many toys in a Skoda than careering uncontrollably in Toyota with no brakes, and r.h. pedal stuck in the carpet, all whilst collecting points and mowing down cyclists on the Quays.........:D :D

Besides, the Germans are peeved enough about having their QC's dept's eye wiped, as-is, without letting their Czech cousins pinching Oscar's at the Geneva Show as well...:)

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
