As some of you possibly know the national Special Olympics is in Limerick this summer. While it may not be "mainstream" sport it is still sport and indeed the games will be the single biggest sporting event on the Island of Ireland in 2010.

I accompanied MrsA to a volunteer recruitment session, just to keep her company and have somehow wound up as the Athletics Competition Manager for the event.

Which frankly is rather frightning. 400 athletes. Most competing in more than one event. 4 days of competition. 38 seperate events. And my head on the block if it all goes wrong (well, there is another competition manager as well but at a top level the buck stops with me)

So I need help. I have been assured by the organisers that they will get me as many heads as I need. On the day the "general volunteers" will be the sheperds leading people to and fro, presenting medals and the like. But I need a team of people to help get all of this together. Like I said they have said they'll find numbers but I want people I can trust.

The roles are really varied - I need people to manage the Sport Information Desk (main point of contact with the athletes and coaches), I'll need people managing the allocation of athletes to races based on results and distributing results. I'll need a fine looking PA in a sexy short skirt to fetch me coffee. But I'll really need three key people - one to head up the staging team (getting athletes ready to go out on time). One to head up the Field of Play team (starting events on time and clearing issues there) and one heading up the awards team (managing the medals). A delay at any of those three points will backlog the entire system.

This is a really big deal to the athletes - the highest level of competition many of them will engage in. It'll be tough but a laugh. It'll look good on the CV. Being based in the Limerick area would help but isn't essential.

If you are interested please drop me a PM or reply on here.

    HHHHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!!
