Got a new remote from NTL but cannot figure out how to tone down the colour/brightness using the new remote. Have looked thru the manual but cant find anything. Can't even look at the screen as everything is so bright!!

Have you checked that the video output signal is set to RGB and that the box is plugged into EXT 1 on your TV? Also, is it not possible to adjust brightness/contrast on the TV itself? Sounds like you may have a problem

Thanks Highdef, Will check that. Have them calling out tomorrow as the picture quality is not great. Not high def at any rate.

I just got new digital+ (DVR) box from UPC to replace old digital box. I have a similar problem with the picture being too bright with a lot of 'flaring' of white images (like reflections). Tried all the brightness/contrast/hue/colour settings on the UPC remote and on the TV itself with no joy. Anybody have this problem?

Go to tv setting and change the picture to standard. Somehow I was having the same kind of problem when it was set to RGB. I have a full HD tv but standard looks lot better than RGB.

RGB should look better than "standard", which is composite video (technically is shíte in comparison). Maybe there's something wrong with these new boxes? Are you sure the SCART cables are connected properly? The RGB output is fine on my DVR but it's the old Thomson box.

^^ Yes technically RGB should look better. I tried it and then tried changing various setting on my telly but finally gave up. When on standard the picture looks smooth without any flaring, so I keep it that way.

I have a full hd tv, that rules out tv not handling the signal properly.

Is there not something about cheap scart cables not being able to do RGB or something?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try change the RGB setting to standard. Something which did help (I read this on another thread) was to plug the NTL box power cable directly into the mains socket instead of through an extension lead - remarkably this works - the picture may still not be 100% but is vastly improved. NTL also claimed they sent a 'signal boost' to the box when I called tech support. (There's a lot of commentary out there that 'signal boosts' are a myth). I also rebooted the box which may also have helped.
