While over in the 'states I went and got myself a seaplane rating for fun and giggles. It was a simple one day exercise, and checkride. very happy with that, looks good on the CV. Now I was wondering how could I convert this to JAA rating, I had a look and there doesn't seem to be any seaplane clubs or schools in Ireland the only one around is in Scotland. Any one with advise or help please let me know

There's a Maule Super Rocket up in Enniskillen - Linky.

There's also a Super Cub on floats on Lough Owel, but I think that's privately owned.

If you don't find anywhere in Ireland, I can highly recommend this company - Ontrack aviation.

    Very professional and good instructors

The NFC in Weston used to offer Floatplane training, not sure if it's still available though?:)

Are Harbour Air gone now? They were due to start this month from Foynes to Galway bay and Arann Islands.

Where the hell did you get a one day seaplane rating ?
How many hours did you do ?
AFAIK it is 5 hours plus oral and checkout with FAA.
Did you do this somewhere like Jack Browns ?
So many bloody lakes around there, all full of gators BTW. :D

Floats are fun, but you will always have one huge problem world over and that is unless you have at least up around 50 hours you will never be able to hire one.
Ther is no way on earth a hirer will let someone out on their floatplane after one days flying trust me on that.
Unless you have loads of dosh to buy and service your own you will be flying with instructor for a long time.

Anyway not sure if this is any help, but to get a CAA JAA license (not sure IAA handle them), you need to do a Seamanship exam which means knowing about all those little flaggies that old battleships and yatchs fly up the mast to tell each other what they are doing.
I think their idea is that if you are going to hanging about on the water where there might happen to be ships or fancy yatchs then the least you should be able to do is know all about their rules.

To get CAA float rating need 5 hours dual training and need to pass flight test.
Although not sure if you need to redo flight test since already done one.
    Anyway hope some help.
