How far could you run at 72 seconds per lap?

The National Junior 10000 metre record is 30.17.0 which was set by Frank Greally in August 1970. Yep, that's not a typo. We are approaching the 40th anniversary.
I spoke to Frank in jest a couple of weeks ago and asked him how far he could run now at that pace. I won't tell you the answer.
There may be a few juniors around this year who could attack that time. How far could you go? Can you do an 800 in 2.25? Can you do a 400 in 72.5? Can you do a 200 in 36 seconds?

My last track session ( back in the summer) I managed a few 31 second 200s but was shagged after each one and needed a good 5 mins before I could attempt the next. What about yourself HW? :D

Would be excellent to see a few juniors attempt it but would they be capable?

I wouldn't even bother doing a 72 anymore. My calves and hammers are too tight.
There are enough juniors out there who could break that record if they got together and attacked it.
Fair play to you with your 31's. I didn't know you had that speed in your legs. If you keep up that pace, you will break the world record for the marathon.:)

True but sadly I was back to 9 minute miles tonight after a 6 week lay off :D

I'd be surprised to see any attempt it. It's not a great distance for a junior to be competing at considering age.

Richard Yeates of Raheny was the last that I can recall having a proper go at it. He got the Euro Junior qualifying standard but I don't know how close he was to the record.

Did the first mile of rathfarnam slightly quicker than this (followed by a horrible death for the rest of the race:p) alot stronger now so i say maybe 2k maybe this year. Pb for the mile is 4.42 on track so i would be a good indicator that should make 2k just about

I somehow did an 800 in 2:13 last year so in theory I should be able to do 72's for at least three laps, doubt I'd make it any further though.

I have done 2 laps, I definitely could not do 4 (sub 5-min mile), never had a chance to try a 3-lapper.

The other interesting comparative lap time is the marathon world record, which equates to 70.5s - 105.5 times !!

Okay - at first glance I thought you had that one wrong but then did the math and it's right. Madness. No idea how many 72s I could do at the moment - probably about 4 anyhow but I'd be blowing hard after that.

Don't know how good it is but a coach was telling me of a 10 year old here doing 37 for 200. maybe not that great but he says he has to hold her back as he says he does not want to push her.

I reckon I could probably run 10 yards at 72 seconds per lap - on a good day.
