It's not him, it's MCD charging that.

I saw him in tripod not much more than 1 year ago for half that price, which wasn't organized by MCD.

I would love to see him, he's great live but at that price it's just not worth it. Until more people put the foot down and say NO, they will continue ripping people off.

**** sake that is disgraceful. Would love to see this.

    Ballox i'll be in france.

DJ or not he's still a fantastic live act.

Yeah but €40 ? Did the experience of seeing him live improve enough in a year to warrant the doubling of the price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭Xinkai

Well it's the same with all acts in all genres of music, for example an emo group called Elliot Minor, seen them live 2 years ago for 9 quid a ticket. Came back the same year with more fans in a different venue for 16. Then seem them live for a 3rd time after playing festivals with many more fans tickets priced at 22 euro. The more famous people get the more the ticket price. Now Deadmau5 is world famous the promoters see $$$ being made from a top act. Plus it's Ireland. Look at Star Wars live, 20 quid in Spain, 15 in London, 95 in Ireland...

I will admit 40 quid is a bit much, but think about it, for that price theres a distinct possibility he could bring a couple of guests along for a cool show maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,607 ✭✭✭VinylJunkie

Why would he bring people along, do you not think he would rather keep all the money to himself? €40 is crazy but if people are stupid enough to pay it then feck it, he and MCD may aswel soak up all the emo, posers and students money while they can.

Ive seen many better gigs and live shows for much less than €40 for example Marcel Dettmann for €7.50! I think Pan-Pot where something like €12.

Thats still doesn't make it in any way reasonable or fair.

Star wars 95? Deadmau5 40? i have never even got payed to play one single gig in this disgrace of a country.. this is exactly why all the national djs f**k off.. over priced over rated international djs run the scene over here.

Going to see him in April in London - Brixton Academy.

Tickets were £29 in a much better venue plus it runs from 9pm until 4am over there !!

MCD are to blame here folks, not the DJ.

Still charging celtic tiger prices in Ireland  But then again I bet it sells out so you can't blame them I guess.

Agree its MCD not Deadmua5 pushing the price up but for the people who wont and can’t believe the price it’s because they mustn’t be fans. For example I paid for my girlfriend and parents to go see Rod Stewart in Lansdowne road a couple of years ago at over €100 per ticket and it pissed rain, he sang his songs and left. With spending €40 you get to see the best (in my opinion) music producer/DJ in a great atmosphere and will be guaranteed to see a great show (Unlike other DJ's who be-grudgingly play their set and go) and he sticks around to sigh autographs after. €40.00 - yes its dear but I would gladly pay it and this will be a guaranteed sell out regardless. Roll on May 7th :)

I was in Berlin on New Years Eve last year and went to Watergate to see Magda,Sebo K,Guido Schneider,Zander VT and a load more brilliant djs for 10 euro in. One of the best clubs/soundsystems/lighting in the world.

Now compare it to the 40 euro you'll pay to listen to **** electro in a sweatbox on Dame Street with a sound-system that was never designed for this kind of music.

Anyone who can justify this price for what their going to get in return deserves to get ripped off.

I've been to see him twice, once in Tripod, and last year in The Academy, both times putting on a great show. The Academy gig was 32 quid so it's not much of an increase but I'll still admit its fairly steep, but as others have said, it ain't him pricing the gig.

On a side note, we'll get to see his new L.E.D. mau5head as it's being unveiled at the Brixton Acsdemy a few days before, been in the pipeline for about a year and has cost him a bomb to make, should be interesting to see what it's like!

I've been thinking about this aswell. His management would of hardly of picked a place for him to play if they havn't got the right gear to make it decent though wouldn't ya think!?

I can't see anything right with this statement...how could international DJs run the scene here? That doesn't make any sense. The people getting the international DJs over here in the first place are the Irish DJs/promoters.

Anyone know if this is a 18's and over?? My friend wants to come but we can't find out anything about it.

On another note. Saw him last October in the Academy and jesus was he amazing.:D

I dont really get what you mean by this either. Promoters from Ireland, who are generally djs themselves, book International acts to play for them because they like them but also so they can play on the same bill and promote themselves.

If you've got something to offer in Ireland then chances are you'll get a shot somewhere along the line. Theres is definitely an attitude of 'hes not as good cos he's Irish' in this country but for the most part we do celebrate the great artists like Donnacha Costello this country are fortunate enough to have produced.

However Luke,a word of advice to you. Dont play for free. Its a simple thing. If you over saturate anything people dont take notice of it. You seem like a nice guy an Ive seen you post you're mixes up here and id be delighted for you if you caught a break but Ive stop taking notice of what you do for a few reasons.

The fact that you put up so many mixes, you fill them with your own tracks which are unsigned quite a bit and you associate yourself with Gobsmacked Records.
Again please dont take this the wrong way but you need to take step back and relax.Work on less music and better releases.I can only assume you know the guys who run Gobsmacked but it releases some very below par music, isnt on Beatport and goes completely un-notice by most of Ireland.

If someone is willing to pay you to play you need credentials and the ability to bring something exciting&professional to the table, with an air of mystique and sadly I dont think flooding internet forums does any of that for you.

Pick a few labels outside Ireland, maybe Germany and release alongside bigger more respected artists and then you will start to gain peoples respect and the ability to charge for a gig.

Really sorry to go off point but I like how Luke's heart seems in the right place with what he does and hopefully he takes this on board.

By the way Deadmau5 is a rip off.

I was speaking on personal experience there! :o should of said that. We have had a lot of trouble getting gigs together at the start, we felt hard done by.(this wasn't gobsmacked btw) Lost a bit of money, it was pure luck of the draw though, we booked someone and confirmed a venue, a day or two later we find out that someone huge has been booked in a rival venue.
Of course that is not the big dj's fault! lol I forgot how everything is taken as it is online! :/ understandably so... as you do not know personal experience from one simple text comment! :pac: i was a bit pissed off at reading the price he was charging too tbh! :)

As for the comments on Gobsmacked, I can only speak for myself mind. But i really have put a lot of work in to my tracks, it obviously is a learning curve and as with any artist, it takes time, experimentation and a hell of a lot of commitment and work to make any impact. I hope you appreciate that.. Nothing happens over night..
And i don't try to flood forums with mixes, in fact i made a thread so it wouldn't be flooded. and i guess you see the varying styles but i like to mix it up! ;)

On a side note, i have planned releases on 4 different labels apart from gobsmacked this year.. i do tie myself to them.. in fact i do A&R for them as of recently and i really enjoy working with Diarmaid & Karl.. but i can agree there is a lot of under par stuff out on the label that i would never even dream of playing.

Not worth it and the Olympia would be a woeful venue for a gig like this.

I saw him once for about 15 quid and was suprised that I had a good night, but him being a producer, and his sound being constantly similar, wouldn't need to see him again.

What? Not sure if you're aiming that at me just purely mentioning it on a side note, or that fact of him making the thing itself!?

Ain't the reason I'm going if thats whats getting your gee in a twist...

Ok fair enough your opinion you like him as a dj, thats sound.

    Even though "Dj's Are All f.ucking cun7s"

But Genius? Would you be able to elaborate on why you would refer to him as a 'Genius'

I'd like to know on what basis he is a genius.

Compared to other such DJs. minus the gimmick head gear of course.

He never said that, least not meant it in a literal sense. Paper here twisted the words and made it sound as though he did. His respsonse...
"I could only have imagined people wouldn’t read into it so much (let alone the interview wouldn’t pick out all the stupid bits) and miss the point completely. I’m not a total ****ing idiot, and I recognize talent when I see it.... and there are many talented DJs out there for sure. In my eyes, those would be the individuals who utilize technology to deliver the music in ways that are both skillful and innovate, more so than my vision of the "play/stop/pitch" DJ. To me, the club is about "the party"... the people make the night... the DJ obviously needs to use that to his advantage, it's give and take.

Okay, to say "all DJs are...." etc. etc., to be taken literally as this article did, was just painfully stupid and wrong on their behalf. So I’m not the world’s most eloquent person... any idiot can tell you that. But the meaning behind the statement was ‘the concept that I recognize as being a "disc jockey"...

See it as a failed attempt at correcting a wrong, or backtracking, or just being plain hypocritical, I really don’t give a **** either way... This statement isn't for you ****ing elitist ****heads who have nothing better to do with your internets. This is for the the people who appreciate what I’m doing, people who enjoy music, and is meant to assure those people that my intent was not to insult or belittle anyone or any group of people in particular.

Yeah, I see your point there, but as a follower of his music for 3 or so years, it does annoy me, the people who jump on the wagon and get people who are genuinley interested in his music all tarnished with the same brush as these gimps.
