Programming a remote control

Hope this is in the right forum. A couple of years ago mrs tippwarrior bought a remote control from one of those bookclubs that go around to workplaces.

It's a replica of the old black sky remote but not the real thing and has no name on it.

Problem is it was been used to operate a telly and the batteries died. Now it needs to be reprogrammed. I have the code but dont no what buttons to use to enter it. I did it before using the info that came with the remote but it seems it's been recycled.

I realise this is a long shot but I would be grateful for any opions.

Press (tv) then (select) and (red) together.
    The led should blink twice
    Press (tv) again
Enter code, led should blink to confirm.
This method is for the old 4 digit codes
If it is a newer 3 or 4 digit code then the procedure is

(tv) then (select) and (red) led blinks twice, then enter code.

I've tried several combinations. I cant get the led to flash twice. Thanks again for your help I knew it was a long shot. It will have to follow the instructions to the recycle bin I think.
