it's soooo slow, the controls are unresponsive and it makes this annoying ticking noise. I'm so dissapointed, has anyone experienced this?

It's the "new" menu system they rolled out in the last few months.. my HD box is the same way since the "upgrade" :( Tends to settle down and behave a bit better 5 mins after power-on though.

Unfortunately though it's not like a PC that you can just add extra RAM or a faster processor to improve the performance, but with diffferent boxes made by different manufacturers with different hardware specs, and as Sky themselves don't care there's not much the customer can do.

thanks, it's not really acceptable though is it? Shame! Any use in ringing them?

I doubt it.. it's all luck of the draw as to what box you get from the installer and Sky aren't likely to replace whhat to them is a new, working box.

You could try forcing an update though to make sure its on the latest software - may/may not help...

    - Remove the card
    - Unplug the box for a minute or two
    - Hold the backup button on the box (not the remote) and plug it back in
    - Keep the backup button held down until the lights on the box all light up and you see a message about updating software on the screen.
    - This will take 2 minutes, after which the box will restart (takes 2 minutes during which the remote will be unresponsive).
    - Press the Sky button on the remote and reinsert the card... you're done!

    Worth a try anyway...

Do a reboot first and see if that sorts it out.

I had numerous Samsung boxes which had slow remote responses as a result of infra red spill from the TV. Keep your Sky box 'hidden' from possible IR interference from the TV.

I now have an older Thomson Sky+HD box which is almost perfect - it does need the odd reboot now and then but otherwise it's fine. The Pace box I had was the best but hadn't got the component output that my display requires so the Thomson is an adequate replacement.

the menu system is slower but you will get use to it .

    be careful when deleting stuff.

if you make too many button presses you will loose something by mistake..

I dont have a ticking noise though (what box do you have)?

The ticket noise is the hard drive when it spins up and down, went from a Sky+ box to the HD box and you get used to it. No point in returning it really all the boxes are slow.

I have a Pace box and it's just as quick as my old Sky+ box. It does need to be rebooted maybe about once a week or so as it does slow down but otherwise it's fine. I previously had a Thomson which was slow and once it got the EPG update was even worse.

Sorry to hijack this thread but seeing that were dealing with HD boxes, I have a quick question..
I currently have a Samsung model and recently it has started to freeze on a channel which is still viewable but unable to change the channel or access the menu's either by remote or the on board panel..normally a reboot fixes that but its getting to be a pain in the backside as its in the parents house and neither of them are able to do it...any suggestions as to what might cause it?

    Thanks in advance

    Danny
