Mac Broken - Music Lost?

    Hi there,

About a month ago, water got into my Mac and it's still f*cked. It will turn on but a folder with a question mark appears and it makes this continuous clicking sound. So - it's prob safe to say it's dead.

The prob is, I never backed up my iTunes purchases onto an external hard drive (yes, I know that was very silly - lesson learned).

I have logged into iTunes from my other Mac, have asked it to 'search for available downloads' and enabled the sharing function (password protected of course).. But can I not transfer what I have already purchased when I was using the other Mac?

I can't sync my iPod even cos i'm afraid it will wipe the complete library off it. Is there even a way of transferring what's on my iPod to the Mac? My whole library is on the iPod.

    Thanks.

Sounds like your hdd is dead. Easily and cheaply replaced usually. What Mac is it? Try booting from the install disc (hold c on startup), open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and see if the hard drive is recognised. You should also run a hardware test, also using the install disc, by holding d on startup.

It's possible the water caused other damage though. I hope you gave it plenty of time to dry out.

And yes there are apps that will take music off your ipod. I can't think of one off-hand, but I'm sure someone else can recommend one to use.

If you bought all your music through iTunes you can contact them and they will allow you re-download all you purchased music again.
