I was wondering what people think. I am posting a disussion from an American Forum and the people their seem to think Haiti is wasted American dollars....

    Canadian
NHL contributions to Haitian relief is in excess of $500,000 and growing with additional initiatives planned. - Dreger

Thats just amazing, IMHO I think hockey players are the most generous out of the 4 major sports. I know that is a crazy presumption but something about Hockey Players and sport its just a different breed of guys.(ie. 6am practices since the age of 3 ect...)

    American

How about giving the money to our OWN homeless and sick in America?

    Canadian

ummm why would that be on the NHL? Isn't that your government's fault. Capitalism at its finest! The rich get richer while the poor are left poor.

    American
How about Darfur relief? Or almost anywhere in Africa?

Haiti is just the latest trend of pity cases.

    Canadian

wow "trend of pity" nice! Spoken like a true American who has not seen the world or the pain and destruction that does not affect them...getting off topic.

The NHL and the players are great bunch of people who donate their time and money to good causes.

    American
Chris are you from Haiti are do you just hate America?

OUR people come first...then other countries.

    Canadian
Actually I am from Canada and I have lived in 4 different countries so when it comes to patriotism I am more on a level where I believe all people should be treated equal no matter where you come from, the strong need to stand up for the weak, the rich need to help the poor and success should not be measured on a level of monitary value but on your morales and friendship. I have travelled quite a bit and most people hate americans, americans pretend to be Canadians and that stereotypical personality of americans overseas being played as morons who don't know where their own country is geographically on a map is actually quite real.

As for you stating your people first well, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq how many people have died and how much money has been spent defending your oil "your people" jesus you don''t even have health care for christ sakes......**** you might as well move thise since it has turned into a political debate.

    American
    1. MOST Americans do not lie and say they are from Canada. (That made me LOL)
    2. Nice YouTube video pick to try and make a point, by picking a dumb blonde... rolleyes.gif
    3. American's now a days JOIN the Army on their OWN, it's their choice to "die" for their country.

    That is all.

    Canadian
    1. Actually yes I have travelled a lot and yes americans put canadian flags on their packs to look Canadian. I **** you not. Have you not seen it?
    2. lol "dumb blonde" thats the best South Carolina has to offer. The best of the best Miss South Carolina....not just a dumb blonde.
    3. They are dying in Iraq for _________________ they spent Billions maybe even hit a trillion in Iraq instead of health care for_____________.
Please feel free to fill in the blanks.
Dude its real its out their!!!!!! Feel free to retract point number 1.

Many American travellers are reportedly going to great lengths to pretend they are Canadian – and they can now take advantage of a reference guide to help with the deception. According to a report in The Times newspaper, an American company is selling a "disguise package" including a T-shirt and lapel pin bearing the traditional Canadian maple leaf motif – and the reference guide, entitled "How to Speak Canadian, Eh?"
ahhh sometimes eh can be used at just the right time, eh?
    here is another

Why Americans pretend to be Canadian
Travellers adopt new identity to escape scorn abroad
    cheesy.gif
proof is their just google it!

Actually to add to that I was at an after hours bar last night in Algarve, thats portugal just incase you didn't know and the bouncer traied to scam me for a cover charge we got into a heated discussion two other bouncers came over and the manager he started "yelling ****ing americans always act like you are the ****(and man he was really derogatoy" I was drunk so I can't quite remember exactly what he said but I said sorry dude I am Canadian and he shut the hell up and let me in.....it's a true story. Man don't even get me started on France, I always get treated like **** until i tell them I am Canadian.

    American
I stopped at the point where you said that she is the best S. Carolina has to offer. **** off. If you don't like America, go be a leafs fan or some **** like that. Honestly, I won't miss hour useless ****ing threads. Also, someone points out that they could be giving to other groups in need, and you jump on their back about it? The needy in America, people in Darfur, and countless other groups need just as much help.

One more thing, I travel a lot, and I don't pretend to be a ****ing Canadian. I'm a proud American, but I still respect other countries. Sorry your "universal respect" doesn't include Americans--you seem to generalize the Americans pretty easily. . .

Also, you seem to be pretty needy if you still haven't learned that "their" does not mean "there." Yeah, if you need the money, I'll donate to send you to first grade

    American
Once again, you completely miss the point, you presumptuous prick.

Since you are more intent on insulting than actually understanding comments, I'll spell it out for you:

Why should we forget about other areas and people in need throughout the world simply because Haiti's disaster is more recent?

There are so many different causes, crises, disasters and people in need that we could be donating ALL THE TIME. But to pick and promote just one of these causes simply because it makes the news just reeks of randomness.

And, Chris, you really show your ignorance and your own personal bigotry when you stereotype Americans - and myself by that comment. Know nothing of the world or suffering and pain? Try living in the Gaza Strip, buddy - which I have done.

But of course, you didn't know that. You never thought to ask. You just thought to assume and insult because you could.

I don't make assumptions about you, your behavior or your nationality/ethnicity. Know why? Because I don't know you. Just like you don't know me.

But what you have shown me is, unfortunately, only a tendency to insult and overgeneralize, based on flimsy reasoning and selective facts.

Your ignorance makes this board a worse place and stimulates nothing to any discussion. Shape up or I hope to whatever god exists that some mod ships you out.

I don't care if I get warned on this, but that post absolutely got me steamed.

Although I pointed out how americans are treated and show them proof they get very angry and call me names. I thought it sounded like they didn't even care about anyone but themelves. What do you poeple think?

Asking about the American stance on helping out Haiti and other countries.

It is interesting that you say that though as the american got very made but no where do i say I hate americans, I only pointed out things that exist. I was not using bad words or telling them they are stupid but yet they are quick to be defensive. I actually have no problem with American or Americans, I go to their country and 99.9% of the people are nice.

I don't know where your debates from another message board should go OP, but they don't belong in the Economics forum.
