Hi Im first time poster so hope this is in right section and apologies if it's already been answered.
I'm 3rd year student at college in receipt of BTEA and may have to drop out in the next week or two because of personal circumstances. Does anyone know if I can claim the dole immediately if I cant find a job.
    Cheers

    Yes you can.

I left college in November on and signed on on December 14th. I just got my claim approved last week but they are paying me back to December 17th (They don't pay for the first 3 days of your claim).

The important thing is to go into them the minute you leave college and open a claim. I went in on the 14th December but didn't have my paperwork in order until after christmas but my claim started on the 14th.

Also, to save some hassle get a letter from the college secretary to say you have left. You will need this and you'll only have to go back and get it.

Before you decide to drop out, speak to your course director to find out if the college can assist in any way that would help you complete your course.
