Triplexer cable problem

I'm helping a friend to run two sat signal and one terrestial signal down two cables (which were installed in the internal wall when the house was being built). The idea is get a Freesat+ and RTE type setup working and I've had a frustrating evening.

We are using a diplexer (combiner with DC pass for the sat signal) in the attic and a triplexer wall plate. One cable is doing exactly what is required. The sat signal and terrestrial signal are combining and splitting to give a very good sat signal and RTE signal.

However, the problem is with the second sat signal, which I have been unable to get to work. What I've concluded is that the second cable (which is intended to carry a sat feed only) is defective. It will not carry a sat signal as best as I can see. (0% reading)

I have checked all the connections are correctly connected and that the f connectors are on properly.

The cable is not severed. As a test I have checked seperately to see if it will carry a terrestial signal (DTT) and it does that fine.

I can't verify the cable type but suspect its RG6 (house is not old - was build in 2008). The problem cable look identical to the one that works.

The receiver box is not the problem, as I have tried another box and the second cable did not work with that either.

I even ran a seperate third cable down from the attic to prove that the wall plate set up was not defective and in the end that was the only way to get everything to work fine. ( this would not be a permanent solution as they are dead set against any drilling to run an extra cable)

So is it technically possible that this second cable is a bit damaged, but not broken, and at the same time that it would carry a terrerstrial signal perfectly, but is completely useless as a sat signal carrier ?

Any tips on what I might do to test things further ? or anything I might try to do to solve the problem?
