What are those wrestlers whose appeal you don’t understand?
Do you reckon that Edge is over pushed, Punk is overrated? Jericho stale? Do you find guys like Christian, Styles and AJ to be dull? Is Kurt Angle a spot monkey whose popularity around these parts baffles you?

I probably should start as it is my thread!
Taker for me, he still seems to escape criticism unlike Hunter but when you analyze the bloke he is horrendously stale. His promo’s are inane ramblings about resting in piece, his ring work is nowhere near as sharp as it once was and he really adds little to Smackdown for me.

I mean Smackdown was phenomenal when he was on holiday, even more recently when it’s got back on track it’s been nothing to do with him. Its been Punk and Batista heeling it up, along with a shockingly awesome women’s feud as well as the likes of Drew, Jo Mo, Dolph, Rey and Jericho been consistently solid in the ring that has made the show entertaining.

Honestly I can’t remember the last segment he was in that I enjoyed, he may still be a solid draw but I would not miss him to much if he quit soon.

P.S Try not to turn this into a Cena and Hunter bashing thread because firstly both have a fair amount of haters here so it would defeat the purpose of this thread and even then theirs two other specific threads about them where you can bitch about them till you are merry.

As much as I'll be slaughtered around here for saying it, Punk bores me to tears. It's the same thing week after week and while it was fantastic at first it's stale by now.

Stone Cold. Anybody who wears jean shorts in a match is a man who I hate. Plus he had such a ****ty finisher.

Same story with The Undertaker here.
Also Rey,Their match at the Rumble was awful. Kneesterio should just go and get surgery because his performances are suffering from nigling injuries.
And not a lot can be said for Taker these days.

The Miz. I really don't get why this guy is considered so popular on the internet. Maybe it's because I was away from wrestling before Bret's return but I actually remember watching this guy on MTV's The Real World a decade ago and I didn't like him then and I don't like him now. This isn't a sign he's doing his job right either. I don't like him as in I don't feel he belongs on my TV. If this was the Attitude era he'd be getting pinned by Grandmaster Sexay on Heat. Watching him mixing with the likes of Big Show to me just typifies how low the industry has sunk.

If this was the Attitude Era we would all be a bit more happy but thats the way the product is going and they're making more money in sponsorship now because of it.
The Miz is liked because most people have seen him develop over time. He was quite rubbish at the start but now he's just a bag of charisma.
As regards to the Big Show, he's rubbish and he's been rubbish ever since he got fat which is the majority of his career.

Kurt Angle. He's nowhere near as good as the internet in general and in particukar this board thinks he is. He's a good spot wrestler but thats about it IMO.

Flame away.:pac:

Surely Mark Henry has to get a mention here. If not then Dave Batista. SD was incredible before he came back as a face.

I cant stand the Miz. His ring work(is it me or does he hardly ever have matches) is poor. A complete w@nker of a human being too. I had the unfortunate expeirence of having him as one of the meet and greet guys at wm in Detroit. Cant stand the guy. Compared to how a lot of the wrestlers react when they hear your accents and know you made a fair bit of effort to get there he was just a tosser. The 2 other Irish lads I was with and the crowd from London who we meet most years did not even approach him. Compare this to just about every other wrestler i have met and its complete opposite.

I agree with the op too. The taker for me has not got it anymore. Since i started watching american wrestling he has always been there. The "reaping of souls" speeches are fast forward material. One of my favorites of all time but i am not enjoying how his carreer is coming to a close.

Randy Orton, every time his boring music hits, and he walks down the ramp with his best boring face on,cuts a monotonous promo, and wins one of his boring matches I want to throw my tv through the wall!

He was awesome as a cocky heel and I used to be a huge fan,but jesus,I know that he isnt a psycho or a viper or whatever he is being billed as currently!

I agree with Batista but Orton?
His persona has gotten a bit stale which any would in a year long feud with Hunter but I don't think he's overated in the slightest.

Batista is just terrible and nobody likes him anyway.

Does Triple H count?? :)

It's Jeff Hardy for me. Never really liked him. He has some good matches, but he really doesnt give a **** and it comes across every time I see him.

John Morrisson annoys me no end.

Slow mo entrance? Sorry JoMo its a no-no!

Jeff Hardy, a spot monkey with zero charisma and no mic skills, after a decade of being in WWE you'd think he would have learnt how to cut a promo, but his delivery sucks.

Im starting to lose interest in Orton as well, genuinely talented wrestler but his slooooooww promos and staring into the crowd with a look on his face as if he's wondering if he left the house without unplugging the iron is getting boring, when he was arrogant, cocky psychopath from 2years ago he was the future of the company, now he just does the same thing every week, does he still have a condition that makes him go crazy or have they ignored that now?

As has been mentioned already, its how he has gone from being talentless and boring to whjere he is now. He has awesome charisma, and his promo skills are excellent. His ring work may not be stellar, but is capable of having decent matches.

He may not be worthy of the excessive praise, but certainly has to be commended on how far he has come.

Agreed. I much preferred cocky Orton to whatever the hell he's supposed to be now.

Then:
RandyOrton132EntrancePhotofilePhotographC11815780.jpg
Full of himself, arrogant, but has the skills to back it up. Bit of a mouthpiece, but will **** you up given a chance. A guy you love to hate

Now:
raor.jpg
Nothing. Just looks pissed off with everything but for no reason. Does what a heel is supposed to do, but you still can't hate him. He's good at what he does, but most of the time, you just don't care

MVP. I rarely enjoy any of his matches. There's just something missing i can't get my head around.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,732 ✭✭✭Reganio 2

Major hatred for the Undertaker can't stand the man and he gets respected for doing exactly what Triple H gets flamed for.

CM Punk bores me too tears would rather watch The Great Khali vs Mark Henry.

Chris Jericho bored me a lot when he first came back only now is he starting to win me back.

Oh and Christian, I don't get the hype at all. He gets major rep for not being pushed, but if he was pushed he wouldn't be good enough. Leave him where he is.

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,800 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Rey Mysterio bores me to tears. I know he's there for the kids and the Hispanic market, but Christ he just bores me to tears, and he fares far too well against guys who would legitimately destroy him.

MVP, never liked him.

Hornswaggle, not sure you can classify him as someone everyone likes, but he seems to be popular, but man he drives me up the wall.

I never understood the Kane love either, I remember when the WWE toured Ireland and the crowd went ballistic for him, but he's so meh.

For me its Taker and Edge and Orton

Taker is old and can no longer cut it

edge is overrated imo

Orton bores me

I'm going to have to go with the undertaker. He's gone pretty terrible over the last few years.

Even as champion now he is rarely even on the show and offers very little when it comes to promos or even matches these days. He's effectively harming talented yourner wrestlers by having that title because its taking away opportunities for the younger guys.

And before anyone mentions how "great" a match he had with hbk last mania don't get me started. If it had been just a match that didnt involve a streak no one would have called that match great. His last few mania matches all that has to happen for them to be called great is to have a few close falls. They mean so much more when everybody is wondering if he will finally lose. That's what make his matches "exciting" not the actual wrestling in the matches.

Also rey mysterio, i cant forgive him for basically screwing zigglers career (hopefully its only tempoary) by defeating him at a couple of ppvs and when he is finally supposed to lose he gets suspended and decides to drop it to jomo instead.

Ziggler had been looking great but since that happened he's been moved lower and lower down the card every week

It's not the same since - Stone Cold & The Rock left, simple as really,, it started goin down hill when kurt angle left ( you might not agree but that's when it started being s**t for me) it... wrestlers that dont appeal to me, hmm

cm punk
this whole straight edge story line is terrible, I wish they'd just forget about this crap, Punk is a good wrestler but my god the story lines are weak!!

kane
only reason he is there today is because he was BIG from the attitude era, I believe thats the only reason. He is just awfull now tbh. Useless doesnt have the same effect without the mask he's just another old bald guy.

loads more that are terrible

wreslters I do love to watch

Taker, Orton. Rhodes. dibiase. edge. cm punk(hate his story lines)

thats a pick of who I find decent tbh

TNA is stealing everyone lol, The wrestlers are good but that will be worse than wwe soon ,, its clearly all about money over there too. I just cant watch it , It doesnt have the same appeal as the big wwe arena with 20.000 fans and actuall decent commentators etc..

I cant wait for WM 26 though, thats one thing I'll never grow out of, it always delivers for me :)

but that is the story of all Undertaker's WM matches now. it wouldn't make sense if it didn't play a huge part in how the match plays out. it's not all about the actual wrestling' it's all to do with the story.

i beg you to watch the match again.

from the start when HBK hits and moves to avoid 'Taker, to the deseprate punching, to the spots, to the frustration of both men not putting the other away, to the Tombstone kick-out, to the final Tombstone spot.

you only have to listen to how the crowd gets more and more into it to see how well they told the story that night.

but, i do dislike Taker. very overrated, especially in his later years.

Oh and I am going to say Stone Cold, I know it seems like a troll post but I never liked him when he was a face or a heel I just couldn't stand him. I never got it, never liked him on the mic and never liked him wrestling the whole Stone Cold era completly went over me. The Rock know their was a proper wrestler and entertainer.

Couldn't agree more, since he's "The Viper" he couldn't be more boring with everty thing he does, At least when he was the legend killer he'd be a bit entertaining and his t-shirts with the Legend Killer world tour were great buit now bleh. Hopefully his upcoming feud with DiBiase(supposedly) will snap him back to an entertaining level!

Ric Flair and Kurt Angle. I've watched Flair for nearly 20 years now, can't stand him. Then i watched his early stuff...and still can't stand him. Same match over and over and over.

Kurt Angle annoys me too. Again same-match syndrome affects him. I've grown to hate the Ankle lock and his general persona. The only Angle I have time for is the comedic Kurt of his early years in WWE. At least then all his matches didn't involve one ankle lock after another, interspersed with a few german suplexes.

I don't know if everyone else likes Mr. Kennedy/Anderson but I can't stand him. His gimmick is to announce himself and repeat his name. How incredibly boring. Yet he is pushed everywhere he goes. He's hurt himself countless times because he doesn't know how to wrestle safely. Its probably only a matter of time before he hurts someone else. But he's got the 'look' so he is given chance after chance.

Dave Batista for me

Jeff Hardy. The mike skills of a Gerbil, and a living illustration of the difference between 'stuntman' and 'wrestler'. If you can't have a good match without f***ing yourself off a 20ft ladder, then you're just a danger to yourself and others.

this will probably cause ructions, but i hated bret as a child -early teen. i was totally in the micheals camp so he was the anti-shawn for me for a good while.

although i am liking the current line with Vince. nothing against his ability, he just bore me from his character.

It pains me to agree. I love Mick Foley as a person and as a character, and I think his promos are usually excellent, but Ive never liked him in the ring. Even looking at his Hell in the Cell match against the Undertaker, which most people seem to love, its like they do everything backwards. There is no suspense or build up. The spots actually get less spectacular as the match goes on. Going off a cage through a table should be the finish of a match, not at the beginning.

• Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

Nah, I agree completely. Never liked him in the ring, never liked him outside the ring. Pretty much always was a channel changer. It got even more annoying when JR would constantly refer to him as "Mrs Foleys little boy".

Mind you, I did enjoy his watches against Edge and Orton. I think he really helped cement Orton as the Legend Killer and gave Edge one of his best non-Cena rivalries. But just watch him against Ken Shamrock and the gulf between what they can each do is all too apparent.

Bret Hart for me,
I just dont get it, Vince hit the nail on the head, A hound dog look and zero personallity, He cant smile at all and always look like he in a bad mood, (just google "bret hart smiles" and see how many photos of him show him smileing) And what really gets me goin is all this screw job crap, If vince had not did what he did this ungrateful p***K would be on Nitro the following night tossin the wwe belt in a garbage can., I for one will be cheering on Vince and Boretista at WM26;)

Except Bischoff has said that there was no way that would have happened as they were already being sued by WWF for the last time and there was not a chance he was risking his job for some cheap dig at Vince.

Thats a question we will never know the answer too. Look it, Bischoff has worked since with the WWE, so i guess it would be interesting to see when he made that statment, Bischoff is the sort of person whos makes statments that suit Eric Bischoff and are in the best interests of himself depending which side of the fence he finds himself standing on in the wrestling business. With all that was goin on back then, I have a feeling that the belt would have gone in the can had it found its way to nitro.

It was in his book which was written after he left WWE, although they did publish it.
