How complicated is it to adopt an Irish Child?

For each of the last 8 years there have been fewer than 5 adoptions of Irish children by person's other than an immediate family member. This fact alone will give you some indication of how difficult it may be to adopt an Irish child.......

Aside from the near total lack of availability of Irish children for adoption- the exact same stringent rules governing assessment as potential adoptive parents exist- which to be quite honest, while frustrating as hell for prospective adoptive parents, really is in the best interests of children.

The annual report of the Adoption Authority (the most recent one I've got here is the 2008 report) details various adoption related statistics- and how these statistics have changed historically (which is in itself very interesting).

Irish adoptions, of Irish children- do occur- but they are very rare these days.
