i have a 2001 sdi leon and the oil level appears to like being slightly lower than the marker on the dipstick for instance if i fill the oil up until it is at the max level on dipstick drive maybe 30miles it will have burned itself down to about 3 bars below max hope this makes sense, it will remain at this level for quite some time with out needing to be filled does the engine just prefer this amount of oil and should i leave it be or top it up:confused:

well i guess you should top it up, but so long as it doesnt go below minimum it wont do any harm.

(you should of course be wiping the dip stick and then re-inserting it to get an accurate level to show).

i do i let the car sit over night on a flat service so i get an accurate reading and i do wipe and reinsert it, i feel its pointless topping up when it just burns it straight of to this level put for piece of mind i will top it up

Is it leaking or burning it off?

Sounds to me if it is staying at a certain level then it could be leaking at the sump gasket or front crank seal.

You could also be using the wrong viscosity oil. 5W40 is what I used in my TDI Caddy.

Are you sure you are reading the right markings?

    Some dipsticks can be confusing.
