My Polo classic 1.4 124,440 miles done
after the cold snap my car wouldnt go into gear While on it would go in while off.
He thought it was the clutch plate and release bearing.a new Clutch plate , cable and release bearing was fitted.
While the front two wheels were on the axel stands it would go into gear chunkier than usual but stil without grinding when the car was dropped it was dead absolutely no movement in it at all( grinding noise).
cable was checked and the release bearing can be heard moving
.the pedal box is fine as was only replaced 3 months ago.
Is it safe to say the gearbox is dead seein the known issue with them.
Any opinion on the fault and what are my options as to get rid of it if its terminal.
    any help is greatly appreciated

that sounds very similar to the fault reported in Skoda octavia, forward clutch pack has a weak bolt which can shear putting the pack out of alignment and thus grind the gears while engine is running, will go into gear when off. Maybe same gearbox manufacturer involved... don't know.
